Thunder Ranch 44Special

I had the opportunity to shoot a test gun at TR at the end of April. The weapon was controllable with factory loads. It hit where you pointed and had a certain "cool" factor. To paraphrase Clint Smith, this is a classic kind of handgun like a 69 Chevelle with a 396, red striped tires and mag wheels is a classic kind of car. If you want a classic, get the gun, if you don't, get the latest polymer ....

I wonder what kind of grips those are. They sort of resemble modified Jordans.

As for the constant posting of the little ditty below, all I can say is that since that agreement the company was sold and changed hands -- at a major loss. Thats been what? Well over a year or two ago?
The only dirty deal Smith is doing now that I know about is that ugly key lock on the revolvers.

Personally, I don't like...

the non-pinned barrel and the goofy lock.

For the record, those are features I don't like and not intended as any sort of politcal comment. I do have to wonder what the action feels like; is it smooth and even like a Smith is supposed to be?

And, from a matter of esthetics, can I get one without the doo-dad on the sideplate?

Don't much care for those FEATURES myself, Archie - -

With all due loyalty to TFL, I’ll mention that this topic has really been covered well on The Smith & Wesson Forum - - So much so that they started a Part Two.
There’s a LOT of comment from the guy who got the ball rolling on getting the 21-4 into production, the estimable Mr. Clint Smith, of Thunder Ranch. I think he deserves a lot of credit on the project, whether or not we all like each and every feature of the “new/old” revolver.

Best,

The Thunder Ranch Special IS a handsome handgun but I think I'll stick with my blued Mod 24 with the 4 inch barrel. The key lock is an abomination that I could probably pick in less than 30 seconds.
