Thunder Ranch 44Special

I hear............that they are a production gun, not the perfection shop
as most have talked about, and that they will be going to S&W authorized
dealers in June. I have a deposit on one and would suggest like action
by anyone else who wants to jump on board and be the first. Don't
know what the pricing will be. I would guess somewhere under $500.

I haven't heard much more, but here's a picture of Clint Smiths gun. It will have the lock that all the new Smiths have as well, it also looks like a round butt grip to me.

Oh, lawzy!

A 4" taper-barrel, round-butt, N-frame M&P in .44 Spl.

My knees are weak! :o

Sadly, so's my bank account. :(

The original S&W N frames were fixed sight .44 Specials. They were great guns. These new ones should also, but I doubt that D B Wesson would have been pleased with that stupid Lock.

Oh me, oh my - -

[Self edit - Off-topic stuff deleted . . . ] THIS revolver does weaken my resolve. For over 30 years I've been kicking myself for trading off a factory nickel 5" 1950 Army .44. At the time, I was discontent that it was not blue-finished and a four-inch. But it was FUN, and accurate . . .

[wringing hands]And, now here's a chance to set right my youthful error, and for a reasonable price. What SHALL I do? [Self-edit]

Oh my.
Oh my goodness.
Knees shakin' and knockin'. Wringing hands, heart a pumping...principles getting tested...good thing I'm broke.
Humm I wonder if electrical tape would fix the lock...
It Fixed my VCR from flashing the wrong time... ;)

Hey Mike,

The old Model 24, was that the old .44spl?
Sigh...someday I'd like one of those.

I like the old ones, blue, and pre agree.
Maybe some day I won't be broke, someone with a 24 will be...I like them "old" agreements. Less paperwork :)

Folks,

It has not been that long since TFL went temporarily offline, so this reminder really shouldn't be necessary. :(

Please continue your discussion about various legal and political issues in the Legal & Political Forum.

Thank you.

You know this stuff better than I

The old .44spl I'm thinking of -was it the model 24? I'm curious how the new TR .44 spl differs from the one I'm thinking of. [besides the lock dealie]. Trying to get a grasp of this is all.

The .44 Spl M&P became the Model 21.

The new gun has the cumulative effects of fifty years of manufacturing changes (good, bad, and indifferent) from loss of the barrel pin and the MIM hammer and trigger and the useless zit, to good stuff like the N-frame endurance package.

It is what it is.

I'd definitely prefer a catalog piece to some gold-plated limited edition bauble. This, the new Model 25 Mountain Gun, and the 327 are all pointing in hopeful directions, though: blueing and fixed sights on N-frames are something that hasn't been seen in a while.

Thanks,
I've always liked the .44spl.
Too many years have passed since I shot a Blued Smith in .44spl and really like it! Could not recall model #.
Tried a Charter Arms Bull Dog. Great idea, would not hold up, did not have 'soul" like an old smith wheelie does.

The 21-4 Thunder Ranch revolver is an "update" of the M21 discontinued several years back. This was catalogued as the 1950, which was, in turn an updated 1926, Third Model Hand Ejector. The plain ol' 1950 had fixed sights and tapered barrel without rib. The 1950 Target came to be designated the Model 24, and had adjustable sights with ribbed barrel, the rib being somewhat narrower than that on the model 29 - - Looked a lot more like the rib on the models 27 and 28 .357s.

Tams -- my apologies. I shouldn't have even TOUCHED on that subject in his forum, even with the mention that it belongs on L&P. Heck, I'll go back and self-edit . . .

Best,
Johnny
