Thoughts on a designated "Truck gun"

A Stoeger Double Defense. Its a side-by-side 12 gauge shotgun with 18 inch ported barrels. I bought one and use it for my truck gun. Rock salt in the right barrel, and lead in left. Helluva combination.

I like the thoughts of a Saiga .223. Don't have one yet, but I'm seeing one in my future.

Pros: 1. Cheap
2. Reliable
3. Barrel is chrome lined
4. Did I mention "Cheap".

Cons: 1. Not as accurate as an AR, but who wants a $800.00+ "truck gun".
2. Somebody help me with more cons...LOL

I dont have a truck gun but i do have a boat gun. Its a mossberg 500 with the marinecoat finish and it has held up to years of abuse.

I don't have a problem with dedicated truck or car guns but I don't have one for a couple different reasons. I don't drive the same vehicle every day and I'm not the only person who drives those vehicles either. My daughter and wife are just as likely to drive my personal truck as I am. But I don't think I'd ever use an AR, even some of the less expensive ones, as a truck gun. Lot's of other inexpensive options that I would take first. Hi-Point Carbines, shotguns, .22 rifles, lever actions, cheap bolt actions and any number of handguns suit my needs just fine.

Everybody's needs are different. A person wanting a gun to pop coyotes at a couple hundred yards isn't likely to have much use for a 12ga. A person wanting to take the back roads and hunt pheasants won't have much use for a Hi-Point. A person in the city doesn't have much use for a bolt action rifle. And so it goes.

As for defensive reasons to carry a long gun in your vehicle it really does little if any good. It's not handy in the vehicle, it's not on you when you're not in the vehicle. What good is it? None.

Thats My setup,Old pickup & 2 rifles a AR-15 & Saiga 308 with a 20 shot clip sounds about right if your from Atlanta.Works real good in the country too!!!.Saiga is good if it gets dirty you just stop at the creek & rince it off & your good to go.Then if you need to do a little tac driving break out the AR.Sure works for me. My Saiga aint been out of the truck overnite in 18 mos.:D The AR has to have a bath alittle more often.;).
