Thought Kelo was Bad?

Un-freaking-believable! Would it surprise anyone if one of these people flipped and did something violent?

But to speak the Goddess's honest truth, I think my house might've burnt to the ground before the 'transfer paperwork' was completed.

That wouldn't do any good! They plan on razing the houses anyway to make room for new development. Besides, from the sounds of the bast*rds that run that city, they would probably be charged with arson.

I remember talking to people when Kelo was handed down, and making the comment "here's the seeds of the end of our country". Ain't going to take too much of this kind of abuse to start making people get a bit beligerant twords gooberment...

Agreed.
Think Twice, Post Once.

Um, Rich, perhaps I was not clear.

What I meant was, what these people would be doing by killing these abusive oligarchs would not be tantamount to punishing theft with murder,
it would be a rising up in righteous indignation and toppling tyrants.

These are people who appealed to the END of our nation's appeals process, and THE WRONG FINDING WAS ISSUED.

WHO agrees that the taking of the New London properties is square with our Constitutional protections.

These people have NO RECOURSE LEFT BUT VIOLENCE.

Is that in dispute? To whom can they now appeal?? Who is left in our "system" who has the power to restore their ownership of their own homes??

I'm not saying I'm taking up arms over this; it's not my fight (as yet). But I would cheer them if they did. They have been wronged in the extreme. Apart from taking their lives or their livelihoods, the worst thing has been done to them: they've had their homes seized, for specious and illegitimate reasons born of corruption and greed.

It depends on the degree of the thievery really. The founders thought murder was well enough in the equation after enough abuse and theivery by the British. Sounds a little dramatic I know, but when the government robs you of your home and then subsequently robs you of your assets so you are left with nothing, desperation and vengeance become the only things you know.

Capital punishment might be a bit extreme, but a good tar and feathering doesn't seem to cruel or unusual given the audacity of these crooks.

I think we might all be looking at this in the wrong way. It's not even a question of "What happens IF someone goes postal over the abuse", but more "What happens WHEN..."

I'm wondering how this would play on the nightly news, and what the popular opinion would be (if, say, Kelo were to be the one to start shooting)? Eventually, SOMEBODY will...

Hunter-
Yup, somebody will.
And they'll be painted as unbalanced; perhaps a "gun nut".

The pundits will tsk-tsk about what happens when people don't "work through the system". Greta will fly up there and walk around the property, tripping over Heraldo, and shaking her head in wonder over the senselessness of it all. The legislature will step in and make it a "Hate Crime" to attempt violence against those in Public Office.

America will shut the lights, turn off the TV and go to sleep, more concerned about the new job, upcoming promotion, layoff or vacation.

Sad, really.
Rich

Well, it's only because they've been lulled to sleep.

But if/when someone does "rise up" about this kind of abuse by government, there will need to be those of us willing to step up and say "Yeah! He WAS justified. They had screwed with him past a point that a citizen should have to endure, and his recourse had been taken to its end, and the final avenue of redress let down the American way!"

People don't do what's right, sometimes, because they fear it will be universally unpopular even though it's truly right. If there was reason to believe that we would not throw them to the wolves and just nod in agreement with the .gov and cop spokespeople that the guy was a maniac, more people might resist government tyranny in forms like Kelo.

I'm just wondering if the former homeowners are going to be compensated for the property taxes they paid, and their homeowners insurance premiums paid during this time. If it was me I'd also try and recover funds for every home improvement, or repair I had done in this time. This really makes me :barf:

This might be my take on this in court propria persona.

Before "rent" can be charged - an agreement has to have taken place. A contractual agreement with informed consent to terms. Like questions of "how much". No agreement - no contract - no "rent".

Then push for indictments and or sue the city officials for attempted fraud.

But the State legislature ought to shut these crooks down - lock them up. And impeach any local or State judges that have partaken.

If this had happened in Kalifornia it would be very interesting, since this states legislation tends to favor tenants over landlords. If they try to collect rent then they are recognizing the victims as tenants and with that all the rights that are afforded a tenant. It'd take them three months minium just to evict them.
