This may be a stupid question...

Here in my city the game "Beer Pong" is HUGE among the college students... And my buddy and I are quite good and frequent most frat parties to show up the "Locals" (we're good because we've been a team for a while and we arent' there to get drunk we're there to win, so we fill our cups with water... thus avoiding the drunken stupor) We just found out about a Beer Pong Tournament happening later this month at some rich kids house and We're invited.

But with there being 5 kegs and 200 people crammed in a single house with no law or reason... I'm wondering if i should be armed. NOW BEFORE YOU FLAME!!!!!! Let me explain that I have a personal rule to NEVER handle my gun when I drink. But people have been shot at partys in this city over the last few years so i'd like to be prepared... So my questions are;

Is it even legal to possess a firearm while under the influence? I've found all sorts of stuff about bars and publicly sanctioned events but nothing about private stuff ( I probably won't drink and even if i do it won't be much, but if I do I want to know what the law is)

This is supposed to be a very laid back and fun event. It's not supposed to be a wild party and my buddy told me that the owner of the house is very serious about that.... So knowing that, would I be best to;

1)Go, and CCW just in case while keeping a level head and extra intense sense of responsibility?

2) Should I go but not carry and keep my SA on High alert and hope for the best?

3) Should I forfeit my entry fee ($20) and not go at all?

Yeah that's what I figured... I don't plan on taking it, but my moms friend's son was killed at a party and that always makes me think...

It's not stupid question. It IS a stupid game. Even considering carrying your weapon when you KNOW you're going to get plastered is even more stupid.

When I'm carrying, I NEVER have more than 2 mixed drinks.

I have a personal rule to NEVER handle my gun when I drink.
Yup, until you get too drunk to know what you're doing.

3) Should I forfeit my entry fee ($20) and not go at all?
That's the smartest thing you could do. Think about it. A lot of college age guys drinking until they're s**t-faced. The owner says it's gonna be laid back - how's he gonna enforce that with 200 college age guys in that condition? You say several people have been shot at parties in your area? Isn't that a GREAT reason to not go? What if someone sees your gun and grabs it? How much damage will you do to your liver and brain cells? Ever hear of alcohol poisoning?

I'm 55. I drink, and I've been drunk in the past. I've been drunk at home, with my wife in attendance for my safety and the safety of others. I've NEVER driven while drunk. I have NEVER been drunk in public. And take my word for it, drinking that much is NOT "fun". You feel crappy the next day, and most times, you don't even remember how much "fun" you had. You WILL end up damaging your liver and brain.

If you DO shoot someone while intoxicated (even if it's righteous), you're in for more trouble than any one person should have to endure. You will lose your CWP, you will probably go to jail and suffer massive fines. You will most probably be sued by the guy you shot or his family.

You're young, but old enough to "THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS - TO YOU, AND TO OTHERS."

Leave it at home.

I don't even clean my guns after I have had a few beers, much less carry. Alcohol and guns just don't mix, in my book.

I like to have a beer or five on occasion, but I know how my judgement gets after drinking. Just not the state of mind to be in when in control (or not) of something that can easily take a life. Sort of like not getting behind the wheel after drinking.

Just go to the party, play beer pong and try to stay as aware of your surroundings as possible. If the atmosphere doesn't feel right and you get a bad vibe, just bug out.

one more thought - eventually, someone's gonna know you're carrying concealed. then what - you have 200 drunken frat boys going COOL! A GUN!

good luck with situational awareness at that point.

From a fellow college kid who plays beer pong (it is fun :cool:), dont carry. I never carry when I will drink, and never drink when I carry... I rarely go to big parties anymore, but when I do I just make sure my best bro is there to watch my back.
So you're gona die someday, but you have a choice. Have some fun while taking a risk, or live your life in perpetual fear and dont take risks.

beer pong

So part of what you are saying is that when sober you can beat intoxicated people at beer pong. Wouldn't the idea of the game be to be playing against another team who has an equal chance with you of drinking the alcohol if they are not playing well. It sounds like you and your buddy are "good" not because you've been a team, but because you are sober and your opponents are not. And no, don't take your gun.

Regardless of state laws, it is my belief that gun and alcohol do not mix. Not even one drink, period. If they want gun laws that work, implement jail time and heavy fines for anybody in posession of a firearm with over a 0.02 BAC.

While I agree with the first half of that statement, I do not beleive you can legislate responsibility. IMO, most of the problems in this country stem from all responsibility being legislated away...
Alcohol does not affect everyone the same at a given BAC level...

Don't take it, or don't go at all. There is no place for a firearm around that many people who've been drinking. If you want to go, go have some fun. Just don't take the CCW.

I will stick with a .02%bac. The privious poster makes a good point that comon sence is hard to legislate. All I am trying to say is that if you are having more than a sip of wine at church, you should not be carrying. Maybe I am a little too conservative on this issue.

That is already one too many. Don't make it two!

Yeah, I was your age once. Enjoy this time in your life, but leave the gun at home!

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is a federal agency, NOT a suggestion for what to bring to a party!

Don't go. Time to live life like an adult. Well, the way an adult should anyway, since a too large percentage of adults actually never grow up either.

If you think the situation will be dangerous enough that you reasonably believe you might need a firearm, don't go.

The whole point of beer pong is for both teams to be drinking. If you are not drinking you have a huge advantage. I find it hard to buy that your not drinking or that anyone would play you for money that way.

I would not take a gun because even if you do end up having to shoot someone and you had just one drink the DA's gonna be all over you. They'll prolly end up spinning it so it sounds like you were in a drunken rage and killed someone even it that wasnt the case. Do what drunk people have done for years and rely on you fists and feet for defense. I wouldnt consider not going just because you happen to know a guy who was killed at a party. Living you life in fear is no way to live a life. Also i would consider leaving the gun in your car just in case you find youself in a situation where the have had NOTHING to drink and need it.
