Always carry; never tell

In the anonymity of this community, I don't mind revealing that I carry, or what and when I carry.

In real life, however, I never discuss it. Even when others reveal in conversation that they have a CHL, I remain non-committal about my own CC status.

But if I had to respond to someone like the woman who questioned the OP, I would probably say, "If you disapprove of my being armed, that's fine. And if I ever see someone trying to rob you or hurt you, I'll be sure to act as if I don't know you!"

P.S. The OP said something like, "It's not like I'm in a militia..."

I think it's unfortunate that the idea of citizen militias has been so successfully demonized by the propagandist media that even many of us in the firearms community view militias as "extreme".

In truth, citizens being organized into local militias is precisely what the Founders had in mind, and what the 2nd Amendment calls for.

When tyranny or social unrest comes literally to your front door (or just into handgun range), it's pretty much too late for successful resistance.

Hi everyone - Personally, I don't really feel the need to carry a concealed gun (I'm veeery new to guns though) - but how incredibly RUDE of that lady to say something like that!

I don't carry a concealed gun because of the 2nd Amendment right. I carry it to protect myself and my family and my state grants the privilege to have a carry permit. I have some issues with the "privilege" part. But that is another story... There are many that would carry who are not normally regarded as criminals regardless of the 2nd Amendment or states granting carry permits.

As far as the world going to "whatever", that also is another story and one that I see gradually happening and it is primarily caused by social issues.

I carry b/c, in my experience, when things go wrong, they can go very wrong very quickly in very dangerous ways. If those circumstances happen, I might have to fend for the safety of myself and my loved ones until the proper authorities can arrive.

End of story. No 2nd amendment banner to wave.

I agree with your frustrations, though.

You should have said I prefer to carry a loaded weapon instead of getting loaded and using my car as a weapon.
That would be the best answer... God, I wish I'd thought of that!!!

Why do you carry?

First I will list all the people who know I carry

3 Local Police officers (mainly because I work with one of them and the other two are friends....very small town)

My girlfriend who lives with me and sees me holster everyday she has been learning and carrying herself recently.

My Father and both brothers (because it is after all a family thing)

My mother for the same reason

One employee who is in my truck a good deal and couldn't figure out why I am the only person at work who always locks my truck turns out he believes as we do.

That is 10 people total. These are all people who do not discuss it or who already believe as we do. Many people know I hunt and own guns therefore the question I get way more frequently is the following......."Why do you own guns or Why do you own so many guns?

The answer to all of the above is the same no matter what. I have the right to own and carry firearms. I have the right to protect myself and my loved ones. I do not have the right to break the law. I am not a militia man. I do not take the law into my own hands. I do not run into banks to stop armed robberies. I simply am equipped to defend myself. Funny how no one has ever asked me why I studied martial arts btw.

I was asked earlier today "why do you feel the need to carry a gun?" This was asked to me by a woman at work after a friend told her that i have a CPL.

First i want to make clear i dont tell anyone that i carry just my friend's know but we all carry.

My response was simple and to the point:

1. Its my right to defend myself and my family.
2. Look at the second amendment. Enjoy it while you still can because sooner or later the gov. will try to whittle away at it. Then come to me after your robbed or heaven forbid a family member is killed raped or assaulted in some manner.

She looked at me and said "People like you are why the country is going to $#it"

I'd have asked her why she thought that, listened ...... and then opined that "busybodies who were overly concerned with, among other things, the contents of other people's trousers, and voted to use the power of Government to do things that people should be doing for themselves was why the country is in the dire straits it is in: 51% of the poulation of this country is directly dependent upon government payments to survive month to month: How is it that being somewhat self-reliant for my immediate security responsible for any of that, Missy? My CHP cost you or the taxpayers of this country exactly ZERO, and in fact garned the State Government 100 dollars, generated hundreds of dollars in business for handgun instructors, ammunition manufacturers, retailers .... not to mention all the sales and excise taxes that were generated...... I'm taking care of me and mine, and I suggest you mind you and yours. Any more personal questions ?"

Tell them you don't carry and who told you is trying to pull your leg.
The first rule of Gun Club is we don't talk about Gun Club!
QUIT TALKING ABOUT IT TO STRANGERS.

I like the suggested tactic of answering a (loaded) question with a question, e.g. "Why do you ask?"

I rarely come across a person, in real life, who approaches divisive issues as rudely as the woman in the OP's scenario. I have come across any number of Interweb Trolls who say things like, "People who carry guns are just scared." My response is generally along the lines of ... "If you wan't to call it 'scared' then, yes, I'm scared. I'm scared by what I've seen done to innocent people over the years. I'm scared by the criminal violence I see on the news every day. I'm scared that I may end up in a situation where my family or I are in danger of being shot, or worse, and I will be able to do little about it. Sure, go ahead and call me scared."

Usually, the Trolls have little to say after that. They called me scared. I admitted I was scared. What more can they do?

I feel that if asked this question enuff times to get tired of it... perhaps too many people know you carry concealed...;)

Loose lips; sink ships !!!

This was asked to me by a woman at work after a friend told her that i have a CPL.
I'm with those who question why you chose to make it other's business. You don't have to be paranoid but perhaps a bit more "Private and Protective". I am also protective of other's personal business. .... ;)

The women who challenged you is clearly out of line and misinformed but you did open the door. I too have been challenged on many occasions and it's just not worth the conversation. .....

Be Safe !!!

When people have an ideological position, it is the rare individual that can listen to rational argument. So, let it go.

If someone asks sincerely discuss the issue calmly - if they are not open to argument and YOU are not open to their counterview, you gain nothing.

why I carry a gun

on being asked the same question , my answer was a follows:
Because it would look weird pulling a canon around , wouldn't it ?:D

Why do you carry car insurance? Who are you planning on running into/over? Reckless drunkards like you are ruining this country.

Why do I carry a gun? Same reason I wear seatbelts and have a fire extinguisher in my home....... bad stuff happens, and i am as prepared as I can be if it happens to me.

"Why do you feel the need to carry a gun?"

ANSWER: "Because a cop is too heavy AND expensive to carry around. I ain't Donald Trump or the Rockefellers":D (Whom are famous for their personal bodyguards)

Also, my favorite response, if I see them driving a car is: "Why do you carry a spare tire/toolkit/jack etc......?

Their answer: "Because I want to be ready in case of an emergency"

My response? "Well, theres my answer to your question too:D"
