This happens every spring, tax refund in hand,,,

Hello Kreyzhorse,,,

Oh..... Something in the shade of black would be a good place to start.... :)

I'll have you know that the last pistol I bought was black,,,
I picked up that LCP from my lady friend yesterday evening,,,
That gun now sits nestled between my more colorful pair of Rugers.

However if I could find someone with a green LCP,,,
I would be willing to trade them even across.

This is just to burn your eyes a bit more my friend. :D

Walther PPS huh,,,
I've heard nothing but good about them,,,
I just checked the rental list at H&H and they only have the P99 for rental.

The only Walther I have fired was an older PPK which I loved,,,
And a friends P-22 which didn't perform so well.

I'll at least put one in my hand,,,
Thanks for the Walther recommendation my friend.

If it matters, I prefer the raspberry color to the lilac color.:)

All kidding aside, hunt down a PPS if you are at all interested in one. It's the finest small 9mm I've shot. My buddies carry both an LC9 and Springfield XD and neither compare.

The trigger on the PPS is excellent and the ergonomics are as well. The paddle mag release takes a bit to get used to but once you do it's very nice.

Let me know what you think if you hunt one down.

aarond,

I really want one of those R51s as well, but according to Sturm and others they are having some pretty gnarly teething issues. I'd wait another year.

I think the G42 would be a dandy purchase. With $493 to spend, you could even get some ammo and a holster.

If you do decide on a 1911, I have very much enjoyed my ~$400 RIA 1911 as as a "starter" 1911.

Hello LockedBreech & pilpens,,,

Hello LockedBreech:

...but according to Sturm and others they are having some pretty gnarly teething issues.

That's what I keep reading as well,,,
I do think I will wait awhile for this to gain another generation.

Hello pilpens:

I was surprised that you do not have a matching .22LR and centerfire 1911, yet.

My weakness is well documented isn't it. ;)

A few years back I came within a cat's whisker,,,
Of dropping a lot of coin for a real Colt Cadet .22 caliber 1911,,,
But then I would have been compelled by my OCD to purchase one in .45 ACP. :o

But right after that I bought my 9mm CZ-75B and the .22 LR CZ-75B Kadet pistols,,,
I really feel I have the full size duty weapon niche covered with these.

A gentleman in another forum mentioned a SCCY CPX-2,,,
It's a compact DAO 9mm which uses a 10 round double-stack magazine.

I had seen one sitting in the case at The Evil Pawn Shop,,,
So I went there today on my lunch break to check one of them out.

It felt okay in my hands even though the double-stack grip was fat,,,
I did like the big 3-dot sights that it has mounted as standard,,,
But it didn't make my eyes light up except for the price,,,
Buds Gun Shop has them for a mere $259.00.

The Evil Pawn Shop Guy said he just sold one to a person I know,,,
I'll hunt him down and see how the gun works out for him.

So here I sit with $493.00 of guilt free disposable money,,,
That should be enough to buy a nice handgun of some reputable brand.

But what oh what should I look at?
I say that it's time you considered learning the hobby of handloading. You won't believe how much help we can offer in the H&R area of this site. It's my (very firm belief) that it's a hobby that will enrich the entire experience of guns & shooting, and that it is FAR beyond a simple way to "make my own ammo."

However, if it's got to be a gun, I think you need to put a Colt Woodsman in your hand and interview it. I would suggest a Second Series variant, a Colt Challenger or a Huntsman. Prices vary quite a bit and there will be a lot of shopping and chasing to find one at a price you can live with, but the craftsmanship and joy these guns provide is hard to fully describe in a post on the forum.

My last suggestion... if this annual event is so very much "guilt free" and goes straight to flip your happy switch with no regrets...
Your next move should be to update your W4 and add, say, ten bucks withholding per pay period ! :D

The previous posts are all excellent suggestions

BUT

You should have ONE black powder firearm in your collection just to show you have a connection to the roots of our obsession.

A brace of dueling flintlocks (I love saying brace) or perhaps a Ruger Old Army cap and ball.

But of course you have to have a place you can shoot one…my current indoor range not only says ‘no’ but ‘really, really no’.

If you’ve got beginners that you are introducing to the sport it’s kind of fun.

Hello DaleA,,,

It's funny you should mention that,,,
Until just recently I had a "brace" of 1858 Remmie reproductions.

Here is a pic of one of them and the rig I made for them.

I was going to sell them off,,,
But then my brother said he would like to try them.

I still have the Remington (Uberti) revolving carbine,,,
But I never shoot the darn thing anymore,,,
Too much trouble to clean.

But a pair of single-shot pistols in a wooden case would be nice,,,
Nowhere near the hassle to clean as the revolvers are.

Thanks for the hint,,,
You have me thinking there.

Woohoo! I think I have found it,,,

Woohoo!

I think I have found it,,,
And it's all Microgunners fault.

Microgunner posted a picture of a new .22 SAA clone he just purchased,,,
I went to the same website and found one that is almost identical to a .357 Magnum SAA clone I already own.

You all know what a sucker I am for matching rimfire/centerfire handguns,,,
I told The Evil Pawn Shop Guy to see if he could order in one for me.

Here's what I have,,,
Dakota 5.5" case hardened frame with brass trigger guard and brass backstrap.

Here's what I hope to purchase,,,
Cattleman, New Model, .22 LR, 5-1/2",,,
Case-hardened frame, brass backstrap, and trigger guard. Manufactured with forged frame. Six shot cylinder.

My Dakota is an Italian reproduction,,,
I bought this from the estate of my friends father,,,
Who knows, it could be an early Uberti just like the Cattleman .22 revolver.

Anyways, I think the two guns look enough alike to pair them up,,,
So If The Evil Pawn Shop Guy can get me one,,,
That's where my tax refund will go this year.

My thanks go out to Microgunner,,,
He helped me find a revolver I will truly enjoy.
