I did shoot it in the dark...infact it was the indoor range i worked at with the lights out(aka really dark) i found it quite uncomfortable..but i did not mention that there are all sorts of variables that could have caused this

indoor(almost no natural light)
reloads(depending on powder...excess muzzle flash)
me(i could have sensitive eyes)

i just call it as i see it.:D

Beretta is "big"?

I always find that comment interesting. I guess the Beretta is big, but I'm only 5.9", definitely not a big person, and I absolutely LOVE the way the Beretta feels. It is the most comfortable grip I've ever held. I suppose then, that "big" is relative. The 92 is my daily CCW gun as well.

What this really makes me suppose is that I need to make a list of guns described as "slim", "short", "wide", "stubby", "big", "small", etc and go try them all to see if I agree.

Can I get the government to fund this study?

If you decide on a Beretta, check out the new Vertec. Its a little more concealable and has been getting excellent reviews.

The BHP. All three you listed are fine pistols. The BHP is slim, relatively compact, and a classic to boot.

I agree with Bob Locke, all are fine pistols, but personal fit and feel for a gun can either make you love it or hate it I've owned all three and my favorites are:

1: Beretta (actually I like the Taurus 92 better because the straight front strap is more comfortable to me)
2: BHP
3: SIG 229 or 228 (they are extreemley accurate, but have a higher bore line that just feels a little odd to me after shooting Glocks for many years.)

If at all possible fire all three before you decide, either way you will probably end up like the rest of us and own many (maybe not at the same time) pistols before you figure out which one is just perfect for you. Sorry to say there is no known cure for this syndrome..well maybe winning the lottery so you can have one of everything...:D

Am Free Bird

CZ makes a nice moderately priced 9mm.

Sig - always great - I like 226s best (but that is just me).

Beretta - I have 2 - 92 SB Compact and an 92 Elite II

The E II is outstanding - no question. However, unless you want to compete with it or just dont mind spending the extra cash I say get a standard 92 FS and get the spring changed to a DAO model spring. Beretta is a big heavy gun. However I like them.

As most have said, try all of them, maybe several times, before you buy. Then buy the one you like , think you can shoot the best, and will want to take often to the range and shoot (practice, practice, practice, especially if you will carry it). also insure you understand the differences in safeties between them adn what that means to handling, holstering etc (ie, the BHP is a "lock n cock" carry). But for me? BHP feels like an extension of my hand.

If you can find a Hi Power, get it. I don't see many around anymore. Great gun. Nothing fits your hand like a BHP. The CZ is nice too but for someone with small hands it isn't as comfortable. I have short fingers and don't like the CZ as much for that reason.

Long after I bought mine, a new model, CZ 75B SA was released. Not only it is single action (my preference), but has adjustable trigger both for takeup and overtravel. That could be the answer to your problem. I will have to take a close look at it myself. It just might be an even better 75B...

thinking of getting 9mm

I would say get a Walther p99. It is the first gun I bought but it is great. I've never had any problems with it and it has adjustable front sights and grips. The HK P7m8 is a really cool gun but the prices are real high.

Another vote for the CZ! Best 9 for the money it seems to me. I love the grip and it is so accurate. 9's are great as you can practive a lot cheaply, get a lot of rounds downrange quickly, and with the right ammo you will have more than enough stopping power! BUt hey, there are those who have to have 8 cylinder cars-it doen't matter to them that the 4 cylinder Porsche runs rings around them!

Hey, let's not make it a permanent association "CZ-75 -- four cylinder engine."

I vote CZ and 8 cylinders :D

Not sure why anyone would need a ported, C Model Glock, especially in 9mm. One of the reasons why Glock made the thing was for "recoil sensitive" shooters. I could care less how the thing fires at night. Last time I checked, not too many folks were that concerned of any 9mm felt recoil, so why is there a need to cut down on it? The mystery remains....

I really like my Berettas. They just feel so natural for me to point n' shoot w/ :D My vote is w/ the Beretta 92fs

Well thanks everybody! I haven't made up my mind yet, I'll try to test drive the ones I'm interested in before I buy but up here in the comunist northeast you don't find alot of dealers and ranges where you can rent & try one.

And as for you hecklers that just couldn't resist urging me to get a .45acp instead. I already have a colt 1991 A3 and love it. A brushed stainless combat finish. I cut my shooting teeth on .45acp in the U.S. Navy and I've love 'em but times change and though I will always shoot .45acp, I wanted the option of shooting 9mm as well. My wife can't handle the recoil of the .45 or .357mag so 9mm is the smallest I'd want her using. (Just in case she ever needs to) :)

I'll post again when I decide.
