Thinking of getting a new gun

Which option?

The CZ-97b is a damn fine pistola. But one the other hand, so's the 1911. In fact, those two platforms just might be my two favorites. What a choice!

I'd keep your 1911 for now. Switch ammo types, ditch the non-working stuff for something reliable. You won't lose any real-world performance by going from, say, Cor-Bon screamers to Federal 230s. It's all the same.

Then get a CZ-97b or, if you're feeling frisky for a 15-round nine, a CZ-85 Combat. As finances allow, of course.

The gun fires, extracts, ejects, but then the fresh round's nose goes into the chamber, and the slide closes on it while the base of the round is still in the magazine.

George - This sounds like you need to get a Wolff +10% magazine spring. With that high pressure round snapping the slide back the magazine spring isn't pushing the next round up fast enough. You won't even need a Dremel tool to make that fix happen.:p You can wait until you get another job to get the CZ97.
