Thinking of a new chronograph

they are starting to ship, find some buddies and all go in on it. you should be GTG. it's neat unit but my Magnetospeed works just fine now.

I guess I left out a detail. According to longrangehunting.com, orders placed with them after 2 weeks ago aren't expected to ship until September, no year mentioned. Labradar's site still says they will be available in the Fall of last year. In any case, I'm not buying one for that price, nor am I much on the buddy system for such things. The Magnetospeed has me taking 2 aspirins and going to bed almost daily, though. I don't know how much longer before I cave and buy a V3.

I absolutely loathe my Chrony Beta Master model and it has made me hate the idea of using it at all. And this is for many reasons I will not go in to, but can be found by searching my posts on the subject.
The ProChrono Digital just released their bluetooth module to work with iPhone and Android devices (http://www.competitionelectronics.co...hrono-digital/). App is a free download on the two stores. I have been very happy with mine using the 25' USB connection to the laptop, but I might have to buy the bluetooth component as it would be nice to not have to take the laptop to the range...
I think I may end up here and offer a hardly used Chrony Beta Master for a great price. So thanks for the heads-up on this unit from Competition Electronics.

Currently have a 10 year old shooting chrony beta model. It works and I haven't had any problems with it. . .

I have a shooting chrony beta. Does everything I need it to do. Can't imagine what else is needed from a chronograph.

Spend your $120 on some other play things.

I have the Chrony Alpha , very happy with it. No matter which low end unit you choose they ALL can be frustrating to use in varied lighting conditions. My Alpha does not like low angle sunlight, or passing sun and clouds. I get the most consistent performance in bright overcast conditions. Luckily I've never shot the actuall unit, but I have shot the sunshade support rods a few times. Once was using a pistol, and the other was engaging a second target off center to where I initially set up the unit. I now carefully measure out the unit, line up my rifle at my target, then stick a bore sight laser in my rifle and use a piece of paper behind the unit to verify where the shots will pass through the support rods. No more shot support rods !

that Bluetooth adaptor with the prochrono digital looks really cool. i wish it wasn't more than half the cost of the unit itself for Bluetooth, but still pretty cheap in the end.

Bit the bullet and bought the ProChrono Digital with the Bluetooth option, will post an update on how well it works. Probably use it in conjunction with my shooting chrony hope I don't experience the variations I get between my RCBS balance beam and the Lyman electronic powder measure, which drives me crazy:(

Looking forward to hearing how you like the Bluetooth add-on (and phone/tablet software), as I keep wanting to purchase everyday!

Already off to a bad start, found out my purchase is a preorder. Delivery will be in 3 to 6 weeks. Thought these things were already on the market. Now I get to worry about software bugs and start up jitters. I hate getting the first release of anything. :(

that really sucks, it looked as if it was already a product. I would have assumed the same.

could be great though, never know, at least it's not made by apple

Good news, just got an E-mail from UPS item has shipped and should be here Wed.
wonder if they read my post. :D

Unit arrived yesterday, got it setup with little effort, linked right up to my android. It was cloudy an overcast, tried it with and without the diffuser but I couldn't get a reading from my pellet gun. Didn't have a lot of time so I'll try again this evening.

Tried it both ways except I left the support rods off. Do they help cast a shadow?
Have a lot of questions regarding the difference between the USB module and the bluetooth app for android. Seems the software provided with the USB is far more comprehensive than the app. I'm guessing the app only emulates what can be gotten from the screen of the chorno, while the software generates much more data such as energy, power factors, etc.
In addition the laptop software can be downloaded to Excel, not sure if this is true of the app.
Did I go and buy the wrong damn thing again?:( Boy do I hate computers.

The software with the USB wire is not very useful. The best thing the software does is get your data to your laptop. You will only care about getting the data somewhere you can use it. Excel does all that and let's you save and label results.

Don't think you will get a reading with a pellet gun no matter how good the lighting is. I've tried .22LR and yes I did get some readings but even in ideal lighting it was very inconsistent.

Brutus,
I would call CE and ask if something could be wrong with yours. I have the same unit, just using the USB to computer versus the BT connection and i have never had it not register a shot (10mm is all I have been testing though). Is the main unit display registering the pellet shot, or are they both not seeing it? I think in their videos they are throwing a pencil through the sensors and registering a velocity...

On the other point the USB + software is pretty bare bones. It allows you to view remotely, remote control the unit (i.e. clearing shots, new string, etc), and export the data (one string at a time - would be nice for a whole export feature). The iOS and Android app looked like it had more features to me in their video and I did download the app to play with (adding in features they could pull from the OS like time, location, temp, pressure, etc).

I am probably going to go ahead and order the BT module, if I do I'll report back if i have good luck or bad!

cwall 64 where did you see the demo I can't find one for the bluetooth option.
Got a hold of an airsoft pistol and the unit is working fine, not so much for the app. It shows the velocity of each string but I can't for the life of me figure out the export thing. All I get is a single string display. Help file says to use the slide to get to other functions but nothing happens which is why I don't think I'm exporting the data. Instructions are very sparse.:o

Found the demo, of all the stupid things, app works perfectly as long as you keep your tablet vertical, lay it down horizontal ( like when using the keypad, Duh!!) and all you get is current string velocity. Nice if they would explain that in the manual. Glad I figured this out now rather than at the range. Next step is to compare results gotten from my Shooting Chrony.
Will post the data sheet as soon as I get some time.

Here's what the spreadsheet looks like.
