Thinking About Retiring the Glock 40s'

All comes down to what works for YOU! I like 40 and 45 for carry handguns, 9MM as a sometimes carry and back-up and 380 emergency use only! Your mileage may vary!

DING!DING!DING!!! I think we have the answer here.

Until I wanted a gun I could convert into 357sig.

.357 Sig is the one I really don't have much use for.

Glock 22/ Glock 27. Thoughts?

Dropping like old flies, the Glock Fortays. Good riddance too. :)

Was never a 10mm at all, and thus much less versatility.

Against the best 9mm loads, the 40 is either equal or yields only a marginal gain.

Not seeing where retiring the Fortay would be a heart-wrenching concern.

Never had any use for a 9mm. To get it to perform you have to use a +P or +P+. Why not just use a round that was designed there like the 357 Sig or 40 S&W. By the time you shoot enough ammo through a 40 to wear it out you will have fired tens of thousands of $ worth of ammo, just buy another new $400 Glock.....

The 9mm fans always point out that they can have 2 more rounds, I have news for you, if you can't get it done with 15 rounds 2 more are not gonna help.

Keep a few .40s. Never know when an ammo shortage will make finding 9mm hard as finding hen's teeth.

I keep a good selection of carry guns in different calibers. 9mm, .357 sig, .40, .45 (it's easy if you have a gun like a Glock that can switch barrels, and thus cartridges, at will.) Even a .380 (I really like the Glock 42 and Ruger LCP.)

I even keep a few top notch revolvers in .357 Magnum that will serve very well as carry guns.

And of course, I have the carry gear to match. Any one can be used in an instant.

>>I would keep at least one of them in case of another ammo shortages<<

As you may recall, the last time we had an ammo shortage there was virtually no 9mm to be had, but ample supplies of .40. (at least around here) And rest assured, there WILL be another ammo shortage. :-(

P.S. And I don't give a rat's posterior what the FBI does.

^^^ I remember that.

This is why I bought a 40sw because I saw plenty of 40 ammo everywhere. Since I never had a 40sw I thought about trying it. As it turned out I quite like it. True it's snappy but after shooting it for a while it's second nature.

Now I have a 10mm and that made the 40sw feel like a 9mm so it's all relative. I got a 40sw barrel for it so I'll have one.

Oh, and I'm with you on the FBI, who cares what they say.

The only reason that I maintain .40 S&W firearms is because my agency issues them. If I could, I'd have only 9mm. Currently, your stable of firearms forces you to stock 3 types of ammo. If I were you, I'd trade the .40 cals for 17/19 9mms, and move on. Or, just sell them and invest heavily into your M&P series (maybe get a M&P9C, an extra holster, a bunch of mags and ammo).

Boy, you must live in a really nasty, dangerous neighborhood.

Not so much where I live as where life takes me.

Like a young marine who survived two tours in Afghanistan told me last month: Do the opposite of whatever the Federal government does when it comes to choosing firearms. A man would be wise to have options.

I'd give them to my kids. I don't prescribe the ammo shortage variable as reason to keep them. If you intend to keep any gun, you should by now have all the ammo you and, the people who you intend to leave it to, could ever shoot.

I wanted a 40 for a while. I decided I'd just buy more 9mm's instead. God Bless
