Thinking about a J Frame Sized Revolver......

Here is another vote for trying out as many snubbies as you can. Then I would look at how I plan to carry it.

I often carry a 640-1 loaded with 125 gr maggies because I don't have any medical or other reasons saying I can't, and it is important enough to me to do so. I train enough to maintain the skill level I am comfortable with. That also lets me know my skill limitations with this combo. With the "new" grips the factories started putting on our guns, I can deal with the recoil. This gun is harder to shoot than a 6" K/L/N frame though.

I wouldn't want to shoot maggies in the new superlight J frames. The thought gives me a headache. They are really handy to carry though.

BigG, while some may prefer Ruger, and some Smith, the ones who prefer the S&W are correct!:D I had a short SP101 in .357, and it was BRUTAL with the Fed 125JHP. Can't imagine what it would be like to shoot those in a 12oz revo. I'm guessing.... I guess it's like having a grenade go off in your hand.:)

For belt carry, go with a 3". For pocket carry, nothing larger than a 2".

Personally, though, if I'm going to carry on my belt, then I can carry something bigger and will carry my Kimber Compact. I've got a 3" Model 60, but I use that for training people with small hands. It doesn't fill a CCW nitch for me. YMMV.

CSlinger: have you looked at the Sp-101 in 9mm? It can use the same ammo as your Sig 225. I've seen some for sale, barely used, around $250-325. Plus, 9mm splits the difference between .38 +P and .357

.38 Spec +P 125gr 950fps
9mm 125gr 1100fps
.357 125gr 1300-1500fps

I'm not sure if Smith is making J-frames in 9mm anymore.
