Thinking about a .44 mag revolver?

As Doug 29 said, the 44mag is at its best when you handload for it. You can load it light for practice, and heavy for big game. There are thousands of loads in the manuals, or given free on the web and elsewhere. And so many bullets are available. It's easy to do the loading because the case and bullets are big, so it's easy to see if you are doing things right. A simple loading press, left set up just for the 44mag is my choice. Great cartridge to start handloading with. adk

The .44 Mag. cartridge, in my experience, seems to possess a lot of inherent accuracy. I own two .44s. A 4" Model 29 which was tricked out by Jack Weigand, and a 7 1/2" stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk. I would have to say that the Model 29 is the most accurate centerfire handgun I own. The SBH seems to shoot itself. It is one of those guns where you fire a shot, know it wasn't quite right, but at the target the shot was only off the slightest little bit. It seems like I have never loaded anything that wasn't accurate from 180 to 300 grains. IHO, the .44 Mag is a caliber that no serious shooter can be without.
