They swear they fixed it...

I asked the rep point blank - did you fix it? He said yes, shipping in the next couple of months...felt pretty good in the hand, but also felt...cheesy...hard to describe.

Still want one, but I'm not going right out to get one when they are re-released.
Gonna wait for further experiences with the new generation R51.

If you've gotten your r51 back from recall then you're the first I've heard such from. If and when they come back with the r51 I'm sure the taste of that recall will still be in people's mouths even if the new guns are good to go.

pretty sure at the last shot show, the reps were saying that they were the greatest things since sliced bread... ooops.

Sliced bread is overrated.

I've got a very nice Wusthoff bread knife ...... and homemade bread is so much better than the lowest bidder crappola they sling at the grocery store.

Looking at the lowest bidder level MSRP, I should have known this would have suck and fail as major ingredients.......

I liked the premise of the action. I liked the dehorned edges. I liked the backwards looking rear sight that could be used to rack the slide, in a pinch ...... I could even put up with the quirky looks ..... but it does not work. They could have done SOOOOOOO much better, even if they had to charge more for it.

They took them off the market before I had a chance to buy one. They didn't work? So what? I have a Rogak, a Colt AA2000, two Schwarzlose blow-forwards, and two Infallibles, all real winners. If I want something that works, I have my Model 19.

The reintroduction of the R 51 it seems will have an uphill battle with those critics who had no intention of acquiring one anyway. It would be nice to see the pistol in it's redesigned form become a popular seller, it took guts for Rem to admit disaster and hopefully overcome same. Ok back to the "doom and gloom boys". I for one shall be watching for in-stock advertisements.

I was kind of interested, but hadn't seen one. Then I heard how they were being pulled back and redone to fix issues. I put my interest on hold, but it was still there.

Now, having seen them, I am not even REMOTELY interested!

Soorry Remington, while I own many of your fine products, the only way I would get one of those would be as a gift. And the odds on that are slim, or none, and Slim is out of town. Because anyone who might give me such a gift knows me well enough to know that I am a dinosaur, who prefers guns made of metal (preferably steel) and which look like they are made of metal.

I actually was extremely interested in the R51, until I read poor range review after another after another on them and the nearly instant recall of all R51s. the apparent reason was that the design performed well but issues were caused with the mass production process. that to me, means that the guns that they spread around to all the internet and magazine gun reviewers are not the same guns that are actually being sold to the masses and if they really wanted to build a name for themselves, they would build their reputation on guns built using the same process as the mass production models.

now, we once again, get to see if they truly fixed the "mass production issues" or if they just developed a different set of problems.

also, people have done nothing but gripe and moan about the springfield "grip zone" but I haven't heard a peep about the QR codes molded into the plastic of the R51... so people can apparently snap a picture with their Iphone at the range and see what you are shooting... god forbid they actually ask the owner questions.
