There ought to be a law against it.

Gale's since left us...

And I do miss his conversations and postings here.

What I didn't know, until the latest edition of Precision Shooting, is that Skip Talbot also left us on July 1st earlier this year. Another friend of the .50 BMG, gone to a better place.

RIP, Skip. :(

"The sniper rifle is truly a military weapon, fielded by armies in conflicts around the world"

I thought military weapons were the ones protected by the 2nd amendment.

"I think the keywords in this whole statement are 'Bring heavy and intermediate sniper rifles under the control of the National Firearms Act.'"

"And so what is an intermediate sniper rifle. Something that can kill out to 1000 yards?"

According to the VPC website, intermediate sniper rifles are 30 cal sniper rifles. Presumably this would include a 30-06 or 308, as long as it's marketed as a sniper rifle or tactical rifle. Basically, any popular hunting rifle with a sleek look and a cool name.

Re: VPC

What a bunch of idiots. They are using the same old scare tactics they always use. Take info out of context, exagerate everything they can, and just flat out lie when it's convenient. :barf:

They may change the wording of whatever story they are currently using to brainwash the feeble minded, but the goal remains the same...dis-arm the general public so that we will be "good little subjects to the elites".

If they can convince enough people that the .50 is an evil weapon of mass destruction, the .30 hunting rifles will be next on the list, then the semi-auto anything, and finally any type of handgun will be illegal to own.

Shades of Australia...England...etc.

I was "told" that the ultimate sniper round was the .22-250 because it has a flat trajectory out to infinity. Was also told it retains enough energy at 1000 yds to penetrate deep enough to kill at that range without needing pinpoint accuracy BUT that it WAS accurate enough for perfect shot placement.

I don't know if the above is true, but if so, it sure puts a huge dent in the premise that "sniper guns" are large cal weapons. Anyone truthfully know what our guys are using on assignment?

It's the left wing attack using a slipery slope errosion of our 2nd Amendment. They tried with handguns with moderate success. They tried with military style rifles with temporary success. They banned machine guns, short barrelled shotguns, etc. Now, it only makes sense they sensationalize evil hunting rifles.

If you notice, the original post was in 1999.

And now the "ban the .50" is really taking off since the idiots in CA did away with them.

It's now 2005, it took them 6 years to get the ban wagon started downhill (as in, picking up speed). It shows that they are relentless, as we should be in stopping them.

*I never got to really "meet" Gale. There have been many members that used to be here that aren't anylonger. It's sad that they can't be here.

I don't miss them all. That Gwinnydapooh chick had a potty mouth.

What a stroll down memory lane. . . . Gale McMillan posting in Legal and Political no less, and the first reply was from DC. I do miss those people. Others, like Oberkommando, are still around if you know where to look. (He spends all his time at www.familyfriendsfirearms.com now)

Too bad .50 cal. rifles are so dang expensive. IMHO, every lawful citizen ought to have at least one and 2000-3000 rounds of ammo on hand. Of course, there are .50 cal. rifle construction manuals that are affordable...:D :D

To this day I maintain a PM exchange that I had with Gale back in '99 in my files. I miss him.

Strange blast from the past seeing a thread started by him here, today, though.

Heed the warnings: they're marginalizing us.

Heck, we're marginalizing us: "No honest man needs..." :rolleyes"
