The Slaughter Rule is Unconstitutional

All politics being local and all.
In a speech prior to tonight's House vote, Speaker Pelosi quoted Tip O'Neill on that. She then modified it to say, "all politics is personal."

Let's hope it becomes that way. We got here because of an apathetic populace who chose too late to get involved and become vocal.

And that's not just "everybody else." It's us, too. I've lost count of how many supposed "gun people" I've spoken with over the last couple of years who can't even name their Congressman.

Jeff Knox estimated that less than 6% of gun owners are politically active at all. From my firsthand experience, that's pretty close to the mark.

The Slaughter rule is unconstitutional. A great deal of what's going on right now is unconstitutional. It continues only because we allow it to. Make politics personal. Get in touch with your representatives. Organize letter-writing campaigns. Raise awareness.

As long as people think they can't make a difference, they can't.
