The S&W SD9VE

The SD9VE is one of the best buys you will ever find. From about $300 to $360 you can get a new pistol that is very good quality. They are accurate and just as reliable as some costing three times more. Some people hate the heavy DAO trigger but I like it. I now own two of them. Bought the 2nd one used this morning from a guy who really needed some cash. $250.

I own a the SD9VE's older, uglier older cousin the SW40VE. I picked up mine for $200 and have no issues with it. Its accurate and goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

I can shoot mine just as well as some of my very expensive guns when it comes to fast combat type accuracy. I did well with it in IDPA. I like the trigger. It is a good safe design.

I paid $289.99 for mine two and a half years ago. It has been very reliable with no issues at all. It took me a while to get used to the heavy trigger but it either got better or I got used to it. I shoot it pretty accurately.

I more recently bought a Taurus PT111 G2 that I like better and it was on sale for $199.99. It has a shorter barrel but fits fine in the IWB holster I bought for the SD9VE. It has a very unusual trigger but I adapted quickly to it.

It's basically a cheap Glock I have one and so does my son. To be fair I havnt shot mine enough to comment. But my son likes his.

I had the 40 caliber version. I got it LNIB for $200. The trigger wasn't great, but it was 100% reliable and was as accurate as a typical service pistol. IMHO they are a good deal.

My wife has one. Not a bad shooter, especially after the Apex trigger replacement. Good pistol for the money. She just upgraded to a P320. Quite a difference, but you pay for it.

I don't mind a heavy DAO trigger if the pull is not too long. This one is heavy but not as long as some.

@Polaris Joe. You should really try the cheap Apex trigger replacement. If you like the stock trigger you should really like the Apex. Might be surprised.

I installed on a SD9, and it required fitting, it didn't move forward enough to reset. The trigger reset felt a bit weak as well, but it worked.

Do keep it in mind that fitting may be required.

I must be opposite. I love the kahr DA trigger, and S&W revolvers. Long, but smooth and lighter. Just personal preference I guess. Which is why internet forum arguments are often silly when the revolve around opinion.

I kept looking at the SD40VE (AND Smith and Wesson), after being happy with my Shield in 40

I wanted a gun for the hip, when hunting and one I wouldnt be too upset if I lost in the woods

For a gun that is $300, then add $60-80 APEX trigger, (Im a believer that this pistol needs the APEX) Im up to $360 or so
I also have night Sights on my pistols, so figure another $80......

Im up to $475 ish with shipping different desired components. I also have the hassle factor of the DIY install of the APEX and night sights. (Or paying even more to get them installed)

I came accross an add at CDNN for an M&P 40C for $359, with Night Sights

I went with the M&P40C

I didnt even need a trigger job as they are so much better than 3 years ago with a nice break, and audible reset click. (They do need 300 dry fires, to smooth up the initial trigger)

I also like the flexibility as just adding a 9mm barrel/Mags (or 357) and I can shoot other rounds... People have tried this swap in the SD40, without much success.

SD40VE is a nice, underrated pistol, but street price needs to be $200 or so, before I move that way
