The perfect CCW Auto?

The whole thought is fatally flawed, when you throw out the most capable round, the .45, for as lame an idea as you give. Re think it, and come back <grin>

Kinda tongue in cheek, but your reasoning for not including the 1911 is pretty weak.

but, but...

ther "perfect" carry gun *does* exist<g> (never mind that there is no such thing...hands, situation, etc.):

para 6.45.

.45 cal (is there anything else for self defense<g>?), very small, sweet, sweet, sweet DA trigger, very accurate, easy to hold.....works with smaller hands too.....6+1 (i doubt that 99% of all potential self defense circumstances need even this many), thin as well as small.

i don't see why anyone would want, say, a kahr 40 when this gun is no bigger...although "feel" does matter and other guns might <somehow> feel better, i grant.

only thing missing is a long, long history..and that the jury is out in that regard until it isn't...at least on this particular gun.

para QA is not what, say, HKs is, but 1911s often need some tweaking anyway<g>.

You pretty much described the Republic Arms Patriot .45. 3" barrel, 7+1, polymer frame, stainless slide, 20 oz., DAO, no safety or slidelock. $220. Just got one, haven't wringed it out yet.

My idea of a so called perfect CCW auto would be along the lines of a Series 80 Officers model, Stainless, 5" Bar-Sto barrel left fat on the end and Magnaported. Possibly an extra set of springs for .45 Super use. The reliability job and extended ejector are a given.

I agree with benburnskfPara has just invented the perfect carry.

Never mind the clothes. "I may be ugly but my mother dresses me funny."
Granted the gun is new and not time proven. But I'm stickin with it.
I have never been so enthusiastic about a gun in my life. It's weight is perfect for carry and shooting. Slim and just the right size. Feels real good on my hip.
Only problem, my girl friend complains that it is cold when she snuggles up to me in bed.

Lots of good guns mentioned...lots. I would have to side with the P/O LDA or Kahr for the perfect mini CCW. The P/O has the safety, not the style DS mentioned but a safety...
I still prefer the Kahr K/MK series. Light, thin, potent and dependable. My K40 is one of my primary carry guns.....Its damn near perfect.
Shoot well

Mannlicher,

In 20 years in law enforcement, with 15 as a firearms instructor, I've never seen any empirical evidence whatsoever to back up the claim that the .45 is more capable than the .40 or the 9MM. Regardless of the rantings of Cooper and his disciples, the hard evidence just isn't there.

I know that there are a million anecdotes about a "guy that my neighbor knows" that sez he saw four felons disemboweled by one .45 round! These urban legends and fairie tales have been around for decades. But they're as phony as the other fables that a .357 magnum will penetrate an engine block, or a .44 magnum "will knock a grizzly bear off of his feet."
