The P220 is not a very good pistol...

OKAY GUN

Not a big fan; seen two with cracked frames, they shoot straight but the bore axis is too high, feel wrong in my hand, too many levers/thingies/controls hanging off the left side, good accuracy.

Kinda like a REAL expensive Ruger P90 with a snob name and reputation; same performance, bigger mystique (hype).

Just me............

>>> Not a big fan; seen two with cracked frames,

yeah, in 20 years on the market.

>>> they shoot straight but the bore axis is too high, feel wrong in my hand, too many levers /thingies /controls hanging off the left side,

Yes, it's very confusing - there are two, the Slide Release, and the Decocker.

Yeah, there are lots of guys walking around Fort Bragg, NC with P90's instead of P220's now, right?

GORING THE SACRED (promise, no names.......)

Sorry if I did not offer the correct reverence for the SIG P220; opinions are personal and unique.

I think the 220 is decent, just not the be-all 45ACP choice. I suggest there are other better choices available as 45ACP launch platforms.

I don't care what soldiers carry. I haven't seen every cracked frame from their twenty years on the market. No gun requires a decocker. The Ruger demonstrates the same capabilities and accuracy, in general, as the SIG P220.

I don't care for the Ruger, either LOL. I don't even like 45ACP that much. I'm happy with a 9x19...............

Well?

I owned a 45 ACP Sig P220 and it was simply the best out of the box centerfire semi auto pistol I have ever owned. The trigger was very good and accuracy excellent!

Sell the gun yourself - should have no problem getting a good price for it.

No gun requires a decocker.

If it's DA/SA, it better darn well have one, or it's not getting bought by me (that's the cue for all the JMB cultists to get online and rant about SA-only being the only action that should ever be produced, until the end of time).

Decockers aren't hard to figure out. You press down on it, the gun decocks.

Yes to decockers!

If you have a DA/SA type of pistol, it's pretty dangerous to not have a decocker. That means slowly lowering the cocked hammer with your thumb, and hoping you don't accidentally let it go too hard. DA/SA pistols I've owned without a decocker, I would take outside and point away from anything while chambering a round.

CULT OF COMMON SENSE

I guess I just don't trust a mechanical device to DECOCK a loaded gun; I prefer (and trust) me.

I'm opposite; I wouldn't consider a gun with a decocker.

Whilst I say yes to decockers I also agree with WESHOOT2 that we must not trust a mechanical device. A few weeks ago I was shooting a Beretta 92FS that had a malfunctioning decocker. For the first two boxes of ammo I was okay with this as I was shooting in SA. Then I decided that I want to do some DA shooting. So I pointed the gun downrange and eased the hammer forward using the trigger whilst holding the hammer. This is howthe BHP is decocked also.

When the hammer reached the intercept notch it stopped there. The trigger was now in DA mode. Thinking everything was okay I began to raise the gun to take aim and shoot..then I heard Bang! The hammer had jumped out of the intercept notch and struck the firing pin. It was a weak strike and jammed the gun due to a FTE but the bullet was still fired. If I was not following one of the fundamental rules of firearm safety which is 'Never cover anything you are not willing to destroy' someone would have been shot.

This has led me to do a complete revision of how the intercept notch works on my firearms.

...As for the P220 I AGREE with the gun show person.. The p220 is not a very good pistol it is an EXCELLENT pistol. It is surpassed by only a few pistols such as the HK USP.

I guess I just don't trust a mechanical device to DECOCK a loaded gun

Then you should also distrust the safeties on a 1911. They are mechanical devices and can, conceivably fail.

SIG better than USP

IMHO, I like the SIG better than the H&K USP, because the SIG has a better trigger. Both are excellent, and very similar guns, otherwise.

Here's my experience with aluminum frame Sig 220s..
Hop around a lot in recoil compared to a 1911
Trigger reset slow for fast follow up shots.
Have never seen a broken frame...yet.
Very accurate

The Sig 220ST I have is absolutely superb. The
extra weight really helps in rapid fire, and it is
SCARY accurate.

The way dealers used to work it in California was to offer you half of the current value of the gun. Since they get a better return on investment on that gun than the average 20% they could get from selling a new gun.
