The P220 is not a very good pistol...

Yup. That's what I was told by a dealer at the Mesquite TX gunshow this afternoon.

I was shopping my P220. Trying to get all my pistols in 9mm, so I figured I'd take my 220 with me to see what I might trade for. After cruising the aisles several times, I had it narrowed down to a couple of choices.

My first choice was a dealer who's always at the shows. Sells a lot of German pistols. Lugers, Walthers, some HK's and a Steyr GB, (Many may know the dealer whom I talking about. Closet Nazi, I think). I was interested in his Walther P5 and Steyr GB. Figured I might be able to trade the 220 plus some cash for either one since this guy's had some of these pistols for at least 3 shows. Guy wanted $900 for the Walther and $950 for the Steyr! He wasn't interested. I don't think this guy will ever sell his wares at his prices. Pi$$ poor attitude also. I have to wonder if he even WANTS to sell his stuff.

My second choice was a S&W Model 39-2 in the box with three extra mags and all papers. No wear. Nice clean bore. Guy wanted $400. My Sig is hardly shot, ANIB also with all paperwork and target and worth at least that much, probably more, so I offered him an even up trade. HE TOLD ME THAT SIG'S ARE NOT VERY GOOD PISTOLS!!!

I opened my mouth a few times like a gasping fish, to argue, looked down, shook my head and thought better of it and walked away. As I was leaving, he yelled after me, "Give me the SIG and a $100 and you got a deal!" I kept walking.

I must have stupid written across my forehead. Do any of these clowns really want to do any business at all? There were a couple dealers who offered legitimate deals, but most just want to rape you. I just mentioned the worst of the bunch.

Unless you are a collector, I would avoid the GB. Just MHO, of course, as I would like to have one for the collection. But to carry? All that gun for a lousy 9mm? And that gas retarded blowback silliness to boot?

Jim

I'm trying to build a collection of 9mm's, so anything new that I get will be a collector and occasional shooter only. My carry pieces are a BHP and just recently, a Star Firestar Plus. I have a Glock 26 I carry also, so CCW is not a criteria.

As for the Smith Model 39. This thing looked new and virtually unshot. Even the box looked new. $400 might've been high, probably was. But, I don't have one and I like the way they look. Sooo...I figured, good deal all around. Guess not.

The SIG P220 is the best DA/SA autopistol in .45ACP on the market, IMHO. The dealer was talking out of a southbound part of his anatomy. He was trying to skin you on the deal...you could have brought a Korth revolver or a 1960s Python in, and he would have said the same thing about your gun.

Yes, I know exactly who you are referring to: Wolf. He certainly can be an a$$hole sometimes and his prices are dreamy.

I wouldn't deal with him.

Of course, David Avery of Doc's is not much better. Tried to trade a Glock 19 with 5 pre-ban drop free mags one time with him for a Walther P99 of some variant (I think a Y2K model, can't remember). He offered (offended) me $350 in trade ! :D

Needless to say I don't try to do any tradin' anymore at DFW gun shows. Come to think of it, after the last Dallas Market Hall show, I don't think I'll be going to anymore gun shows in the DFW area. I can do much better on the Web. :D

Regards,
James

2kiddad,
email me and i'll buy your Sig P220 outright, for a fair price, and pay shipping to boot. I also have a ANIB Walther P5 that I might part with on an even up trade.

Congratulations folks, you've all had a taste of what gun shows have become. Trust me, I have dealt with similar @$$holes myself. They are all just a bunch of used car salesmen who sell guns on the side.

Sad, but at one time in the past I could walk through a gun show and find some good deals. I know of at least one dealer who actually RAISES his prices whenever he comes to the local show.

yeah, gun shows are just there to check out the new items, or get a feel of the firearm you're thinking of getting. But rarely do you find any deals there anymore. Oh, don't forget the shows are also good for ammo with no shipping. :D

The only guns that I've bought at gun shows in the past few years have been from other individuals going to the gun show, not from dealers. That is the only way you are going to get anything close to a deal at a gun show these days. I do go to gun shows to get parts, specialty ammo, etc. though, those are the only things I buy from dealers anymore there. Why buy firearms at a gun show when you can go to the gun shop down the street and buy them for 25% off what they are selling them for at the gun show?

Thank your lucky stars that you didn't get a 39. In ancient times I owned two of them. They are probably the least accurate 9mm ever made. I wouldn't trade a P220 for three of them. No, make that ten. Watch-Six

lendringser and tamara are speaking the truth.

If you've ever owned or shot a P-220, you'd have to put it on one of the best 45s ever list.

that's why I don't shop for guns at the shows.
loose comments, bull slingin, and fools.

He was just going to pocket that $100 as profit.

can't blame him for being ferengay thoough
