"The Other Side of The Wall" - prepare yourself...

Every once in a while, I'll read something that literally stops me in my tracks. Metal And Wood, for example.

This is a keeper... now if I could just see my screen well enough to copy it into Word. Lachrymal fluid has some pretty harsh refractory properties.

Sorry CMOS
Went there
Couldn't handle it
Had to leave

I'm still in the office although it's late here in Houston. I needed to close my door anyway, in case some other folks are still here. Powerful!

Was going to write something clever, but I have to go take a look in the mirror - seem to have gotten something in my eyes...

You can't prepare for something like this ... the girls in the office couldn't understand why I hurried outside suddenly.

It just brought it all back to me, so powerfully -- the day in January when I saw the Wall myself.

This is inadequate, but I had to say something.

quote:
When first I saw the Wall
The day was cold
The ground, frozen beneath my feet,
Crunched as I walked

And it was quiet
Hushed and still
As if, in silent homage,
The world was holding its breath

And the Wall,
My God, the Wall,
No man, no mortal imperfect hand
Could have given such emotion form

The Wall,
Born from Mother Earth
In loving memory of the children
She lost and still mourns for

I cried then, silently,
Tears icy on my cheeks
At names, in serried endless ranks,
Of those who had given all
Carved with pride and loving thanks
On the face of the Wall ... the Wall[/quote]

This is why we must fight for or freedoms and rights. Because many have died to give us what we have.

I guess you can call me a wimp but I could only make it about 1/4 of the way through before I lost it. I had to wait before I could finish it. Powerful. Very powerful. And you are correct leedesert. THis is the very reason we must fight.

I spent most of my tour during the Viet Nam era sitting in a secure building on Okinawa. A very good friend of mine rode on an APC in Nam. He died there. I had a heck of a time at the wall, but was determined to make sure he was remembered. Hard to go there. That painting makes me lose it.

"The Other Side of the Wall" is a great way to identify real human beings from cheap imitations.

Any English speaker who's not moved by it needs to get his or her head examined.

I tried to readt this a second time, to my wife.

I just couldn't finish it.

Remember.
