The New SIG P221 is DEPRESSING.

The New SIG P221 is DEPRESSING... FINALLY, after how many years have we been wanting a double stack P220?
Now we get it and its got a full 14 round capacity! Oh - Wait a sec... Thats only for the Chosen Ones in Mil/Law. What do us REGULAR folk get? Yup... 10 Rounds. Only 2 rounds more than the 8 round mags we can already get. Excited about the P221?
Not exactly.
Interested in the P221? Not unless I can have the full capacity magazines with it... I dont even want to see the P221 with a 10 rounder.

Considering it's a .45 (which means mainly American market) it's amazing they even bothered to introduce it. Anyone wan't to take any bets that it becomes discontinued, or a "Special order only item" in less than a year?

i can't believe sig even waisted their time making this thing. they knew none of us could get full-cap mags for it; who's gonna want one with just 10 rounds??? the grips gotta be huge and only fit some really big guys' hands. i'd much rather have a comfortable grip that holds only 8rds.

If they did something with the grip like Para did with the 1911 the grip will not be that bad just a bit blockier. I think that some LEO's that like sigs will jump on it. I can see not wanting it with 10 round mags.

George, thats why I'm sticking to my P220,

cuz of it's time tested and proven track record.

Best Wishes,

I think they're probably aiming at LE sales with this one. It's not Sig's fault we can only have 10-round mags...

According to my dealer (yeah, I'm hooked), the USP45 full size is selling very well to non-LE folk, who are stuck with the idiotic 10rd limit. I see no reason why the SIG won't do so as well, as long as it is competitively priced.

Now, what they should have done was taken the P245 and made it a double stack, giving it a full 10 rounds... Now, THAT would be something!

As much as I like the USP series... The Sig P220 series of guns are #1 in my book for DOUBLE ACTION automatics. If I can't have a 1911, then I'll take a SIG anyday. Beefy, not plastic, totally reliable and accurate.

Can anyone confirm if this pic is indeed the Sig P221? It looks like a P220 to me....

I'd be surprised if Sig comes out with this one. The Hk USP 45F has pre bans available for it. I think that is a factor.
I think a more likly introduction will be a plastic framed 2045. Nine, or ten rounds and less expensive to build (?) We'll see at the next SHOT show.

Lightsped,

That looks llike an early Browning imported BDA, i.e., the P220 with a more rounded slide at the muzzle, heel mag release, grip checkering all the way to the top.

If the picture isnt playing tricks on me, it looks like an older 38 Super by the bore diameter. I think the 220 was available in 38 Super a while back?

P220 for carry? I know it is relative, but how comfortable is it for CCW? For a duty weapon, no problem. I'm not partial to Sigs, but the 220 is one of the first handguns I ever shot and I do like them alot.

The Browning imported BDA (aka P220) was available in 9mm, .38Super, .45ACP.

Not to be confused with the Browning BDA .380ACPs which were Beretta made.

I have heard at SIGforums that the SIG 221 is only a rumor. What fueled the rumor was a article (quick blurb) in a gunrag saying that SIG was to release a high cap .45 sometime this year.
IIRC, some of the forum members at SIGforums had contacted SIG Sauer, and were told that there were plans for a 221, but that due to the 10 round limit that it would not be practical.

I heard about the P221 back around Christmas. I was searching for a .45ACP an asked my cousin who works in a large gun shop, http://www.lawmensnj.com, here in NJ about the P221. My cousin deals solely with LEO's on the local, state and Federal levels, and is a SIG authorized dealer, said he hasn't heard a word about a double stack .45ACP from SIG. I was talking to him again last week and he didn't say anything about the P221. I eventually bought a USP .45 full size and have no regrets. I tried, really tried to like the P220 but it just didn't work for me. It's a shame too, I would have gotten one helleva discount on the thing.
