The final word in caliber debates.

Having just acquired a .357 Magnum, I can now see that this is the ideal caliber for self-defense. All other guns fall short. My .380's, my 9mm's, my Colt .45 Commander, all are embarrassing self-defense wannabes. However, check with me again after my next firearm acquisition. I may revise my opinion.

Buzz, thanks for keeping this debate alive, or at least undead. ;)

Hear me now and video tape me so you may persue me later at your pleasure . . .

The 10 mm is a little girly cartridge, incapable of doing anything more than letting you believe that you are a real man, simply because most people are girliemen who cannot handle real guns. My .460 Rowland takes your 10 mm between its thighs and crushes it like a little tube of toothpaste.

(For the record, I love the 10 mm. I just couldn't resist.)

Does size really matter?

Yes AND no.

What REALLY matters?

Having a gun when you need it.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Size does matter when talking about different situations. In a self defense situation, size matters alot, saying that is doest is like saying that it doesnt matter if you have a .22 short or a .357magnum. Saying that is doesnt, is like saying it doesnt matter when hunting dangerous big game with a .30 carbine, or a .45-70. Size does matter.

Hey, get one for each occasion; Urban warfare- (where I used to live) Beretta 92 with 17 round mec-gars, Rural warfare- (where I live now) Glock 21 with 13 round pre-bans, Fishing- Taurus 617 seven shot .357 mag, Camping- S&W mod 28 with Federal's 180 gr. hardcast hunting load. Best Regards, J. Parker

Amazing. I try to inject a little humor into this tired old horse and no body gets the joke. And to think of all the fun we could have had with comments about shot placement, etc.

:(

The only people who say size doesn't matter are those who themselves have small... barrels (not to mention failure to fires and ejection problems).

Hey Branrot,

2,200 rounds through my Taurus TP-22.

Not a single failure to fire, feed, or eject. I wish I could say that about my Colt 1911... Oh well, I guess even the big 'uns have "failure to perform" problems occasionally...

Yes, Mike! That's more like it. Give him what for!

Er, not that I've ever had a performance problem with any firearm. Yeah, that's it!

Hey ledbetter, what brand is your new .357 magnum.. I'm thinking of that as my next purchase and I'm looking for pistol ideas. The only brand I've ruled out so far is Slick and Wesson...

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.
