The Deadliest Weapom?

What is the deadliest weapon designed and developed by man. Let's limlit to sy 1400 to 2000 and define a weapon as something used by one man or a small crew ( a machine gun would qualify). Let's also exclude tanks and aircraftand no nuclear weapons!
Remember, we want a specific design by one man or a single design tea, Jist "machine guns is too broad. Lewis light machine guns would be OK.
Now what's the prize? The smug felling that yiu were right and other people were wrong.

1953 Buick. Proven knock-down capability, controllable trajectory, low velocity for good impact duration.

Starvation. Killed 13 million Ukranians in the 1930s, completely engineered by Stalin (don't look for it in the history books, ain't there). And how many millions die in Africa while grain rots on the piers?

As far as your question: The Browning .50 has to be right up there.

The fascist- Created by mans incurable lust for power. Hardened in resolve over the years as the gun culture has bickered and squabbled among itself. The most current to come to mind, Schumer, Clinton, and Brady. With their ideals in place no more destruction could be caused than they would implement. The term genocide comes to mind.

If you want a tool, I'd have to say a simple rifle, musket or civil war era rifle has
been in the hands of soldier and he's dealt more death than the rifles of today used by soldiers.

When this weapon is finally develope, it'll kill more than any man could imagine.

The smart gun.

Criminals will be on the look out. They will keep their keen eyes peeled out for this smart gun. If they see an owner of a SG, they will run real fast. Towards the idiot.

A motivated, educated and pissed off human mind. The education is easily obtained worldwide in any college/university....and it doesn't require a graduate degree.

Another one for the human mind.
Consider this: It has destroyed (and created) whole civilizations, and turned everything from a rock to refined uranium into a weapon.

But in spite of its proven capacity for harm, I am against background checks and registration of its users.

Registration of people who DON'T use a brain has already happened. You'll find them in any listing of local, state, and federal legislators.

Again, the human mind.
Not many animals kill for fun. None kill for "higher ideals". Man does both.

Edged weapons, firearms, explosives, CBR/NBC weapons of mass destruction, even grape Kool-Aid (laced with poison) - all products of the human mind.

BTW, just read this in an article recently.

1) What critter has killed the most humans world-wide?

2) What critter has killed the most humans in the United States?

First is the mosquito (malaria) and the second is the honey bee. I have trouble believing that one considering the War Between the States.

One of the most wicked individual weapons ever devised is the man-portable flamethrower.
Consider: You are snug in your bunker, merrily blasting the swarming infidels, then suddenly you and your squad are covered with sticky, burning fuel.
Ghastly.

toss up between a Samuri sword at close range and any pissed off terrorist

The most _efficient_ weapon devised is the samurai sword. It most perfectly exhibits "form follows function". It is perfectly minimal yet suitable, incredibly deadly, extremely portable, does not "run out", does not use consumables, can be used by anyone yet may take a lifetime to master, can be made under primitive conditions. Distance is its only really limiting factor; firearms easily exceed a sword's range but suffer from other inefficiency factors.

Since humans have been around much longer than guns you would have to guess that knives and sticks have killed many more than guns.
In modern wars artillery causes most of the deaths of soldiers. (Civilian deaths are more often due to aerial bombing or starvation or disease.) It seems like I read that in World War II 70% of the deaths of soldiers were due to artillery.

The deadliest weapon ever known is the warrior that gains the trust of his enemy .
