The Art of "I don't Know"...Global Warming Redux!

“I will continue to condemn those who unfairly mistreated us,” McCain said in a statement released Feb. 21. “But out of respect to a great number of people for whom I hold in very high regard, I will no longer use the term that has caused such discomfort… I apologize and renounce all language that is bigoted and offensive, which is contrary to all that I represent and believe.”

So, he is so out of touch that he didn't know that the term was so bigoted and offensive?

And that he is only doing it out of respect for [uncited] instead of the fact that the term is itself so derogatory?

Ever been to Mexico City or Jakarta, Indonesia? I think we are already doing much more than places like those. Sure we should try to minimize pollution, but carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring gas no matter what the EPA socialists say. The global warming science doesn't appear to be settled either since the satellite data shows the average global temperature has been dropping for the last 10 years. There seems to be debate about these recent findings so there does not seem to be a convergence toward consensus.

You may have heard earlier this month that global warming is now likely to take a break for a decade or more. There will be no more warming until 2015, perhaps later.

Climate scientist Noel Keenlyside, leading a team from Germany's Leibniz Institute of Marine Science and the Max Planck Institute of Meteorology, for the first time entered verifiable data on ocean circulation cycles into one of the U. N.'s climate supercomputers, and the machine spit out a projection that there will be no more warming for the foreseeable future.

Of course, Mr. Keenlyside-- long a defender of the man-made global warming theory -- was quick to add that after 2015 (or perhaps 2020), warming would resume with a vengeance.

Climate alarmists the world over were quick to add that they had known all along there would be periods when the Earth's climate would cool even as the overall trend was toward dangerous climate change.

Sorry, but that is just so much backfill.

There may have been the odd global-warming scientist in the past decade who allowed that warming would pause periodically in its otherwise relentless upward march, but he or she was a rarity.

If anything, the opposite is true: Almost no climate scientist who backed the alarmism ever expected warming would take anything like a 10 or 15-year hiatus.

Last year, in its oft-quoted report on global warming, the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicted a 0.3-degree C rise in temperature in the coming decade -- not a cooling or even just temperature stability.

In its previous report in 2001, the IPCC prominently displaced the so-called temperature "hockey stick" that purported to show temperature pretty much plateauing for the thousand years before 1900, then taking off in the 20th Century in a smooth upward line. No 10-year dips backwards were foreseen.

It is drummed into us, ad nauseum, that the IPCC represents 2,500 scientists who together embrace a "consensus" that man-made global warming is a "scientific fact;" and as recently as last year, they didn't see this cooling coming. So the alarmists can't weasel out of this by claiming they knew all along such anomalies would occur.

This is not something any alarmist predicted, and it showed up in none of the UN's computer projections until Mr. Keenlyside et al. were finally able to enter detailed data into their climate model on past ocean current behaviour.

Less well-known is that global temperatures have already been falling for a decade. All of which means, that by 2015 or 2020, when warming is expected to resume, we will have had nearly 20 years of fairly steady cooling.

Some additional points:

1) Temperatures have not surpassed 1998 (NOAA)
2) Temperatures are now trending downward since 1998 (NOAA)
3) Ocean temperatures have not risen since 2000 when the Argo buoys were launched. The buoys even show a slight decrease in ocean temperatures
4) The Arctic ice froze to February levels by December, there are 1mm more sq km than before (previous was 13mm sq km)
5) The Arctic ice is 20cm thicker than "normal"
6) All polar bear pods are stable or growing (NOAA/PBS)
7) Mount Kilimanjaro is not melting because of global warming, rather "sublimation"
8) The Antarctic is not "melting", it is growing in most places, the sloughing off at the edges is normal as the ice mass grows
9) The majority of the Antarctic is 8 degrees below "normal"
10) The coveted .7 degree rise in temperatures over the last 100 years has been wiped out with last years below "normal" temperatures
11) Al Gores film was just deemed "propaganda" in a court of law in the UK as many points could not be substantiated by scientists
12) It was also just reveled that some of the footage in Al's film was staged film props. The ice shelf collapse was actually a styrofoam prop from the movie "The Day After" (ABC)
13) One of the scientists that originally thought that CO2 preceded the warming has now found with new data that the CO2 rise follows the warming (Dr David Evans)
14) Storms have become less frequent and less severe (many GW alarmists are now backtracking these earlier "theories")
15) Droughts have always happened and always will
16) The greenhouse effect is real and caused primarily by water vapor, our small contribution to it cannot even be measured with any certainty.
17) Several publications, including those that are "warmist" have recently written that the "natural" cycles of the earth may "mask" AGW.
18) 31,000 scientists have signed a petition against AGW!

I remember when I was a kid we were told that there would be another Ice Age. Never happened...

Now I have Al Gore an ex "politician" and Most of Hollywood touting the urgency of stopping global warming. This ought to be a warning sign to most people that they might want to do some deeper reading.

The global warming crowd claims there is a overwhelming concensus on global warming in the scientific community...baloney.

16) The greenhouse effect is real and caused primarily by water vapor, our small contribution to it cannot even be measured with any certainty.

Most of the sources I have read on this subject say water vapor accounts for about 95% of the greenhouse effect, with carbon dioxide accounting for about 4% of the greenhouse effect. Of this 4% due to carbon dioxide, man-made contributions are about 3.2% - in other words, 3.2% of the 4%, or about 0.128% of the total greenhouse effect. Basically, nil.

Global warming is too slippery to serve as a political football.
Can anyone establish a link between it and human behavior? Can anyone assert that human intervention can alter it's course?

/wondering why certain individuals get away with their established pattern of drive-bys, thread-jacking, and ad hominems without repurcussions on this forum...

Wild,

I gathered some links regarding specific evidence for global climate changes. Several of these deal with changes in storm patterns related to equatorial heating. Others deal with melting of glaciers. I would think these are pretty good evidence wouldn't you? BTW, these articles and photos relate to Jupiter and Mars so we can rule out TFL hot air causing them. ;)

This is not a good year to talk about global warming. Besides the fact that it is amost June and we have broke the 65* mark maybe twice now. It has been about 10* below average this whole year. It's cold enough that the first cutting of hay is a month and a half behind what it normaly is.

Ever notice how "Global Warming" is hush hush as of recent? It's now "Climate Change"

From satellite measurements which can average the temperature over the entire earth:

Climate Change we can believe in!
