Thanks Dave McC

I was pretty new to TFL when I came across a post from Dave.

I was utterly impressed. Dave I would have to say that you were the reason that I kept coming back EVERYDAY to check out the SG forum.

Thanks again for your selfless advice and information, and for the wonderful, colourful and heartfelt anecdotes.
I just wish that I could have found TFL earlier and been a part of more of your posts.

Which forum site are you going to be moderating? Whats the URL?

Thanks again.

Regards,
HS/LD

Dave (and the rest of the luminaries of the Shotgun forum):

Before TFL closes its doors I also wanted to drop a note of thanks to not only you, but to everyone else who put their time into this forum.

Three days ago I was the recipient of an early Christmas present...a Remington 870 (my first shotgun ever). For the past two weeks I've been searching the voluminous archives here for not only information on the 870, but on shooting techniques in general. I plan to use my 870 for trap/skeet and waterfowl (it has a 28" barrel), and the great posts here helped me in the gunstore when I was looking at fit.

I took my new shotgun to the NRA range this evening and broke it in with some rifled slugs. Thanks to the great information and helpful hints (particularly the Proper Mounting Techniques thread from Dave), my shoulder is now experiencing a mere dull throb instead of outright dislocation. While I still have a lot of practicing ahead of me, my first time out was very encouraging thanks to you all.

A friend of mine who is a prolific trap shooter will be taking me out in the field in a couple of weeks to show me the ropes. Thanks to this forum, I have a leg up on the technique and am well prepared to make the most of my time out there.

So, to everyone, thanks very much from a shotgun newbie. And Dave, if you're ever doing a master class, I hope you'll let us know.

Goalie

You've certainly helped me a lot in understanding the mechanics and how to take care of the 870 I inherited from my father.

Browsing thru a lot of your posts educated me on the other aspects of shotgunning as well...

Thank you, Dave McC

Be seeing you 'round... ;)

Dave,
I've always appreciated your posts. The next round is on me over at SSBB. Merry Christmas, Joe Zemaitis

It's not nice to make a grown make sniiflle ifrst thing in the morning(G)...

Goalie, next time use some 1 oz light loads instead of slugs. They're for later, right before turkey loads.

Sam, you're the unsung hero here.

To ALL:

Oleg's new baby will be up and running if it isn't already. Think TFL II,with a few upgrades, and probably with some of Oleg's advocacy photos. Worth checking out.Look for the URL on the General Discussion BB thread.

And also,I cannot resist a chance to prostelytize. All of you are thanking me for helping you and I'm full of warm fuzzies over it. Get your own warm fuzzies, pass on what you know to those who need it. Each one teach one. Take someone out and teach them to shoot.Believe me, it feels very, very good....

Dave:

You got me started with my first shotgun for H.D. and then you came up with the cheap 1100's at Walmart and I had to have a couple. Some talk of clays and a couple of over-unders and a pair of 870 20 gauge pumps appeared. Now, I've got seven shotguns and they all thank you for your efforts on this board. Where will you hang out now? If you tell me, I'll need to buy a second safe.

i too have benefited greatly from dave's knowledge. he's been very kind and helpful with questions of all sorts. thanks dave!

You're quite welcome, folks. This thread is quite a trip for me, nice to know I've reached/touched so many.....

Happy Holidays Dave,

I believe its fair to say that you personally affected many, many, more people than have posted their gratitude here.

I for one always thought your posts were a class act. No matter how many times the question had already been asked, or how simple it might have been, you took the time to explain it.

Warmest regards and many thanks for being the shotgun question answer guy.

Rob

Dave, count me in as well.

I haven't been much of a shotgun guy in the past, though that is changing, so I haven't spent much time here. In the short time I've been perusing the forum, I've really appreciated your datailed and information heavy posts.

Thanks a lot and I do hope to see you on the Oleg site

GG

PS I tried an 1187 a few weeks ago and liked it quite a bit, I just might have to get me one, that is, until we all convince some manufacturer to start producing a semi-auto only version of the HK CAWS.

Dave, have enjoyed every post of yours that I have read. Your advice is always excellent and well considered. Your stories of times past are ... I can't come up with the words for how wonderful they are. I haven't bird hunted and have had no one to teach anything about it (although I do have a pair of WingMasters that I inherited from my grandad) but I will try and teach my son the way I wish I had been taught.

Your post are as thoughtful as LawDogs are funny - I look forward to seeing you at Olegs new place.

Besides, my name is Dave, too and Daves' gots to stick together:D

Thanks,Dave....

I was born in 1946, and Dave is the most popular first name of my generation. Everybody liked Ike, AKA Dwight David Eisenhower, but nobody wanted to call their kid Dwight(G)....

Exercise those WMs and get lessons if needed. I'm sure your Grandfather would approve....

Dave thanks for your insight and knowledge that you passed along to myself and others. I do have one request of you. Some time ago you posted about a goose hunt with your father on the Maryland Eastern Shore, my favorite post on all of TFL. I think a repost of that tale would be liked by all and would be more than fitting to be left on TFL as a goodbye post. Al in MD.

OK, Al, sounds like a good exit. Are you over on the new BB yet?

And thanks, all this feedback's blissing me out...

Dave, a belated thanks from me as well. (Christmas rushing-around and stuff, didn't get to the Shotgun Forum).

I don't often post here, but regularly read your advice. I'm glad your wisdom will be archived here, as well as available on thehighroad.
