THANK YOU Veterans

Seems every year at Memorial Day I have to lecture people who want to thank me for being a veteran. I always tell them I'm not dead yet, and when I die it'll probably not be in the service of my country. There's a day to thank me for my service, and it's November 11, not Memorial day.
Aploogies, post withdrawn, have a pleasant day.

This poem is generally associated with Memorial Day, not Veterans' Day.

I always associated 'In Flanders Fields' with Armistice Day November 11th which has been renamed Veterans Day.
And I do wish the VFW would sell Poppies again.
Just the ramblings of an Old Guy.

A little late, but a big thanks to all who have served before me! I'm a new recruit, just got sworn in and I leave for Ft. Benning on February 7th.

I consider it a humbling privilege to Thank You for your upcoming services.

AS do I but this isn't the place to argue about it. Its a tribute, not an ego boost.
No ego involved, but I do believe it is important to keep our tributes straight.

From Wikipedia on the poem itself ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Flanders_Fields ):

It is one of the most popular and most quoted poems from the war. As a result of its immediate popularity, parts of the poem were used in propaganda efforts and appeals to recruit soldiers and raise money selling war bonds. Its references to the red poppies that grew over the graves of fallen soldiers resulted in the remembrance poppy becoming one of the world's most recognized memorial symbols for soldiers who have died in conflict. ...

When I was growing up, the American Legion sold poppies just before Memorial Day, not before Veterans Day.
