What are you thinking, George?!?! Any God-fearin' gun-totin' American knows that it's "Tars." Where'd this "Tires" bidness come from? :D

Still missing a few...
SA=Single Action (sometimes Springfield Armoury)
DA/SA=Double Action/Single Action
DAO=Double Action Only
Shiner Bock= Some Texan concotion that I hope to try in MO this summer
That's all I can think of at the moment.

sensop - If you are really going to take this project on, you should know that I have something that will make you life much easier... or harder, depending on your perspective.

I have been compiling abbreviations and their definitions for about three months now. I have about 120 different acronyms and their definitions organized by subject. I'll email them to you if you are interested. My listing is not complete by any means, but I've got about 95 percent of the definitions.

If I posted them here, it would probably push this primer thread over 200K. :)

In case it hasn't been mentioned already (I didn't read the entire thread), I recommend to compile this into a FAQ.

I got TBM's email. Oh boy. Me and my big mouth, er ... keyboard. Oh well, into the breech. 'Heard a saying years ago that keeps coming back, the older I get. "Son, the worst thing that can happen is you completely screw it up. Then you just do it again ... 'til it's right."

Thanks TBM. I'll take what you've done and see what can be added.

sensop and all:

Do we have an acronym that refers to fireams made before a manufacturer's capitulation to our socialist enemies? May I suggest PRE-CAP (pre-capitulation), as in 'I bought a pre-cap S&W 686 at the gun show.'

'bout that time, folks. Since Sensop is working on the Canonical List Of TFL Acronyms (CLOTFLA), let's not start Part II.
