Texas Woman Convicted of Murder in Shooting

MLeake, I agree that shooting and missing is still an immoral act, but legally being the one who pulled the trigger on the fatal round is a world of difference from shooting and missing. While 1st degree murder often results in death row, attempted murder rarely results in more than 10 years (which is mind boggling.) She got the heavy Sentance not for attempted murder, but for being an accomplice to the actual murder.

That is why I have no problem with back ground checks, it wouldnt have made much difference here, but they do stop a few nutbags from arming themselves.

That is a falsehood. The background check stops NO NUTBAGS from arming themselves...
It only prevents some from buying from a FFL dealer.

The gun dealer usually isn't as cheap priced as a private seller of old used guns anyway.

Well, in NC the background checks MAY stop nutbags from getting a pistol permit or a CCP provided one had been institutionalized in a public facility or a private one that actually reports.

Shotguns and rifles are another story.

Glad the woman was found guilty. I'm sure the husband will be as well.

Hotdog there is a world of difference between a nut and a criminal. I know a few boys who carry in MD and it ain't legal; they got their pistol from the street, but they are pros who have no choice as to carrying or where they get their guns. A nutbag who is absolutely intent on carrying or arming themselves will get their weapons from the street; if they have the connections; usually a mere nutcase won't know where to get a gun accept a gun shop. Ain't too many garage sale guns to be had in MD. So no, a crook is not stopped by a back ground check, but many, not all, 'nutbags' are stopped by back ground checks. Complain about them all you want, but they do some good. I figure, if you can't wait 5 mins for a fed check on a rifle or 7 days(MD law) for a pistol or 'assualt' style weapon, then either you know you won't pass the back ground check or you have some reason why you are in such a hurry(if so go with the rifle, 5 mins is not so long) For the record when I say 'you' I don't mean anyone in particular.

I personally know an individual who is mentally deficient. Mostly cocaine abuse for several decades. He is loopy enuff that he gets SSI/Disability checks and free insurance.

He is a CCW permit holder. He carries every where and at all times including when out in the bars gettin' plastered. He buys his guns from dealers and private sellers alike...

He is a certified NUTBAG... To the point we can walk away from him and he will still be talkin' 15 minutes later. And he even has "crazy tongue" whippin' around and chewin' on it...

The system only intends to prevent the "nutbags" that have been "adjudicated insane" or some such official term for COURT DECLARED INSANITY. And the system misses many of even those.

Might be time to make some phone calls, if you really believe that this person is mentally unstable.

Well, he has been arrested and forfeited a glock to get charges dropped for being drunk and starting crap.

Didn't lose his CCW permit. He has never been adjudicated mentally unable etc... so I would be infringing on his privacy and rights.

Huh I wonder if he would pass a check for a pistol in MD? If he had local charges that were drug related and not very old or any charges related to violence or weapons, then he would probably have no chance. Still he could probably get a rifle, so Hotdog makes a good point. In MD, no one can carry, unless it is on the job and you have to being doing some kind of armed security or currier or you just can't get a cc permit in MD. It sucks, but it keeps the gun haters here happy LOL.
