Terrorists attacking a Muslim country...

For those who have read my profile, I'm a citizen of two countries the United States of America, and the People's Republic Bangladesh. The parallels I see with both countries is that both fought a war against an unjust government in order to gain independence. Both are a society where democracy is widely accepted. The only differnce being is that America has been predominantly Christian, and Bangladesh being predominantly Muslim. Lately though, with all this talk of terrorism in the west, I'd like to shed light that it has happend in the east as well.

It is to my understanding that the Bengali people didn't have to worry about their rights being violated by their government beacuse of these terrorist acts. Whereas I'm under the impression that things in the United States are going sour because of constitutional violations. (Unless someone could give me a more updated picture of whether or not the Bengali government is being protested by its people for their constitutional violations.) As for why I posted this, I wanted to show that Muslims in that country ARE fighting terrorism, and though it may not be on a worldwide scale in massive demonstration or whatever, at least this Muslim nation is trying to weed out extremists who threaten their freedom. Hope this educates and opens minds. Please feel free to comment I look forward to it no matter how many may agree or disagree with me.

Officials say more than 300 explosions took place simultaneously in 50 cities and towns across the country including the capital Dhaka.

Epyon, how many explosions have taken place across America in the LAST FIVE YEARS since 911?

Bangledesh is a tiny country compared to America, yet, you have had 300 attacks and we have had none.
Now what "right's violations" are you having a problem with in America? Out of over 200 million people, you can count on one hand the number of Americans who have been wrongly accused, and THOSE people, while not directly involved in terrorism, HAVE been "on the fringe" of that group.

The investigations and monitoring being done in America have been, to say the least, "surgical" in nature. Yet, we have so far avoided "300 explosions" in America.
There is no question that there WILL be some successful attacks at some point, but for now, the only people who are screaming about "rights violations" are politically motivated hacks and Socialists (the ACLU being both).

It is to my understanding that the Bengali people didn't have to worry about their rights being violated by their government beacuse of these terrorist acts.

No, of course they don't have to "worry" about their rights being violated. They're too busy worrying about being blown up.
If the government in Bangledesh was as good as the American NSA, you would see NO difference in your society, you would see NO "innocent" people being led away in chains, and you wouldn't see body parts flying all over the place either.

Scary, scary.
"We're only violating your rights and breaking our own laws a little bit, and it's for your own good"....
The ACLU is Socialist?!? They protect our freedoms. Maybe the BoR is a Socialist concept. Maybe the 2nd Amdt is Socialist by extension. In that case, you'd best put me on Sen. McCarthy's commie list, because I'm not about to throw away my freedoms for the perception of safety.

Maybe we should all be good, patriotic Americans by declaring fealty to our political masters in Washington. After all, they'd never do anything against our best interest...
Welcome to the land of the free and the home of the brave. I bet if we hooked generators up to the graves of our founding fathers we could generate enough electricity to end our dependence on foreign oil....

CDH,
You know what scares me more than terrorists? People like you.

"We're only violating your rights and breaking our own laws a little bit, and it's for your own good"....

That's all been hashed and rehashed, and the laws are clear about rights. No laws have been violated that are outside of any legal means already granted by Congress. All that noise you hear is the Left of this country looking for any way they can to get their power back and it's not working.

Tell me, how many NSA agents have come knocking on your door or interrogated you for ANYTHING?

As far as the rest, it's people like me, who keep people like you, safe.

You're welcome.

Heist...

I never said it was a perfect political climate back there, it was definately because no one was heeding the warning signs that it happened. As for a Bangladesh having something similar to the NSA, that's wishful thinking, Bangladesh has experienced growth only within the last few years, mainly because many of us send money back home to support our families, as well as help the economy grow. Before many of us immigrated to Europe and America, Bangladesh was barely able to stand on its own two feet ever since the war againt Pakistan. Standards of living are finally being improved upon, and unemployment is also going down. As for the loss of rights I'm talking about, let's not just talk about the anti-gun people, also consider the fact that bills have been pushed in order to allow searches and siezures without a warrant and indfeniate detention. http://www.forbes.com/business/feeds/ap/2006/07/28/ap2912810.html
Yes, terrorism is a problem, but at the same time if you're an American citizen I would think that the laws would apply where necessary. That bill applies to U.S. CITIZENS, I thought as citizens we have rights even if we're suspected criminals regardless of whether someone is a suspected terrorist, rapist, murderer, etc.

As far as the rest, it's people like me, who keep people like you, safe.

CDH, are you LE, military, a superhero from another planet with a red cape? :D

SLASH,
Please! Give it a break!!!!

There are thousands of lunatic Moslem extremists whose only reason for living is to bring death and destruction to the USA and it's people, and you guys are bitching about a few inconvenient "rights violations".

Like what?
What rights of yours have been "violated".
I suppose you're against random bag searches in the subways like they do in NYC.
The ACLU opposes that also!
GOD FORBID anyone gets detained for 60 seconds by someone trying his/her best to make sure there are no explosives in their bag.
I bet the bus riders in London and the train riders in Spain wish there were such "rights violations" before their fellow citizens were blown to bits!

And the so-called "wire tapping" of US citizens.
You're precious ACLU opposes that also.
Only it WASN"T WIRE TAPPING no matter how hard leftwing morons try to believe that.
Looking at the phone records of people MAKING AND RECEIVING PHONE CALLS FROM KNOWN TERRORIST LOCATIONS is not wire tapping.

With the threat that is all around us today, you're not willing to do your part and endure some minor inconvenience so the authorities can do the best they can to protect themseves AND us.

What rights of yours have been "violated" to such a degree that is too much foryou to handle?

But then again, our gov't(and the cops) are all behind 9-1-1 anyway!
Right HEIST!

The ACLU is Socialist?!? They protect our freedoms.
They support NAMBLA's freedom so adult males can have sexual relations with young boys too.
REAL nice organization you support!

Das Boot...

I understand your position on it, and I posted this thread to make others aware that these terrorists have also attacked a MUSLIM COUNTRY!! What does that tell you? These terrorists are obviously hiding behind the guise of religion in order to further their cause and attract as many as they can, and at the same time shove real Muslims under a negative spotlight worldwide. No nation is safe, not even countries that are consistently Muslim from what it seems. Let's not forget Indonesia and Malaysia, they are Muslim countries also targeted by terrorists. So with that being said, what should be done? Why is the U.N. such an incapable organization? I would think countries world-wide would want to make sure to pass measures to share terrorist related intelligence in order to crack down on them.

You've got me Epy!!
This is a global problem that needs AGGRESSIVE handling, not "negotiations".
The UN is so mired in its own internal crap as to be almost useless.
I'm very happy to see the Bengali Moslems standing up and defending themselves.
I wish the other Moslem nations would do the same!
Thanks for the news item.

No problem DasBoot...

I agree the U.N. is much like the now defunct League of Nations. I'm glad to hear your opinions on this thread, I posted it to help show Americans who may have prejduices against Muslims and who think America is the only country suffering from Islamic extremism. The other thing I wanted to point out is that America cannot fight extremism by pushing their religion. (Not that the government is doing that directly, even though Bush has used religious references in his speeches.) The bigger issue on that front would be that Christian fundamentalism in America, as in those who would demand that, "America must be a Christian nation, everyone else can agree or burn in hell/leave America." My thread is aimed at those who think America must be a Christian nation, or anyone who thinks Islam is evil. I hope to educate them that America isn't the only country having to face terrorism, and that people come to this country BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THEY WANT A BETTER LIFE FOR THEMSELVES!! Whether it's escape from religious, ethnic, or economic problems people that come to this country, abide by its laws, and pay their taxes should be allowed to live here under a secular government; that would be the fairest way to govern such a mixed variety of people of different cultures, religions, and ethnicity. Maybe the Muslims came here in order to get away from terrorism or horrible governments?(If they came to a Christian fundamental America, doesn't that kill the point of this being a country of religious freedom?) In order to rally more support against terrorism it must be announced on a broader scale, for a secular nation such as America, you can't expect everyone to support you if you favor only one religion over others. Perhaps that's why there's so much silence from the American Muslim community? Maybe in their eyes they are afraid of being persecuted by Christians here because their views might not entirely agree? In order to promote unity in this country, religion shouldn't even be an issue when it comes to dealing with national security. Do I feel that Bangladesh should also become more secular? Yes I do, because living here has taught me that a democracy is stronger when a country stands its ground firmly in seperation of church and state and favors no religion. However, I would like to say that America is the special case in the fact that immigrants from ALL OVER THE WORLD come here, whereas Bangladesh isn't so big with being the "melting pot".

Epyon

P.S: I do understand that much of American history is interwoven with western Christian influences, however it is to my understanding the that Founding Fathers were more deists than Christian, and that Christianity only fit them because at that time that was the only religion that was publically acceptable/the one they found most fitting to their ideologies. However a deist can be of ANY religion they choose because it fits their personal deist principle. Therefore with that being said, I would have to say that secularism is the best possible solution in running a country that is a melting pot, because showing favoritism can lead up to inequality.

Whether it's escape from religious, ethnic, or economic problems people that come to this country, abide by its laws, and pay their taxes should be allowed to live here under a secular government; that would be the fairest
I totally agree!
Maybe in their eyes they are afraid of being persecuted by Christians here because their views might not entirely agree?
I disagree.
Wasn't there just a huge pro-Lebanon rally yesterday in Washington?
Thousands showed up, mostly Moslem.
Where and when is the ANTI-Terrorist rally??
Their sense of indignation seems pretty selective, don't you think.

Here it is again:
But then again, our gov't(and the cops) are all behind 9-1-1 anyway!
How many warnings do I get?????
Besides, with statements like this:
Don't worry, a small baggie of drugs will be found - curiously enough the correct size to fit into a tactical cargo pocket - and that will justify the whole thing!

I thought you'd agree with what I wrote.
You mean you don't?

Let's just say that too many people forget that the LE community at all levels are people who go home to the wife and kids and have dogs and like to relax on weekends like anybody else.

LE guys know all about the Constitution, and they know that a bad arrest will walk with a free pass if any of the rights requirements aren't followed to the extreme. The monitoring going on right now is like a sieve and a tub of sand. Maybe some names on the fringe of interest will end up in the sieve, but they pass unnoticed with no residual information retained while the real bad guys get caught in the screen.
Believe it or not, this really is about finding and stopping terrorists and not about collecting silly personal data on your whereabouts or purchases.
If you are so concerned about making sure that your rights are protected, start paying real close attention to what the Congress and Senate are up to both state and federal. Then make a lot of noise and vote accordingly.

I get frustrated when the LE guys who do the hard work seem to always be seen as the boogey man.
If I tell you any more, I'd have to k....., well, never mind. ;)

To CDH...

I do respect law enforcement I've never had a problems whenever I was stopped by them for whatever reason. Many times people always have this instant nasty attitude to give them, however I always do my best to just stay calm and rational when interacting with them and understand they are just doing their duty. As for keeping tabs on my government, I do what I can to watch what's happening in Washington, but what can you do when most of the candidates you want in power are the little guys that get shoved around and lose? Kinda hard when your only choice is Democrat or Republican.

Epyon

CDH,
Regardless of where are in the LE world, I can't even think of what our society/world would be like without you guys.
Much thanks for your service.
There is ALWAYS some dirtbag ready to jump in and denigrate EVERTHING and ANYTHING LEOs do.
There are a few on this board...you know them.
But they'll be the first little punks to go cryin' for your help when trouble shows up on their doorstep.
And the worst part, you have to help they're sorry asses too, no matter how much they despise you.
They'll scream against "profiling", yet they "profile" you guys!!
Sure there are some REALLY bad cops, but they are the exception and usually get theirs sooner or later.
It takes all kinds!!!

To DasBoot...

Wasn't there just a huge pro-Lebanon rally yesterday in Washington?

Their sense of indignation seems pretty selective, don't you think.

The pro-Lebanon rally happened because many Lebanese have lost family over there from Israeli attacks. To them this attack was overkill just because two soldiers were captured by Hezbollah. In their eyes it is collective punishment on innocent civilians, a violation of the Geneva Conventions in the that civilians were targets not collateral casualties, and that chemical and biological weapons were used. (I do not have sources on this information, this is only through discussion with Lebanese students I have met at school.)

DasBoot as for why I made the statement you disagreed about fear of persecution. Many Palestinians and Lebanese people claim that Israel does target them in unprovoked attacks. However, to many Americans "Israel can do no wrong" or "Is always right because they have the right to exist/because it's their holy land." (the excuses go on because armchair quarterbacking is all we tend to do in situations that do not involve us directly it's human nature.) and thus if such accusations are true and Israel is bullying them, we would be none the wiser and blow it off as either propganda, or "leftist" media, or extremist thinking.(You're either with us or against us.:barf: :barf: :barf: ) Now suppose Lebanese and Palestinians that live here were to say that in public in America? As you can see it would only turn ugly, from there it would just cause more anti-Muslim sentiment and just cause further discrimination against anyone who looked remotely Arab or South Asian, that's why the silence. To them, speaking about concerns from their point of view will fall on deaf ears and closed minds. Also it should be stated, that it is a disappointment that there aren't worldwide anti-terror rallies especially in Muslim communities. However we don't always hear the good news such as this thread stating that a Muslim country is cracking down on terrorists, I bet if I never even started this thread many people would just assume terrorism is only an American/western nation problem. People who have prejudices against Muslims would continue to think Islam is evil and that anyone who's brown like me, must be ready to jihad it up regardless of if they're Muslim or not. I'm sure Indonesia and Malaysia have also instituted their anti-terror measures but we never hear news on that.

Epyon

My point in bringing up the rally was to show that Muslims CAN and WILL organize for a cause they feel strongly about.

I can only deduce from this that they do not feel strongly enough about what the terrorists are doing to rally against it.
You sound like a very nice person, but you are working hard to find excuses for their silence.
