Temptations: S&W M&P 2.0 Compact vs. G19

I'm probably not qualified to answer this. See my other threads comparing the G19 to ___________

There is a reason the G19 is the benchmark.

There is a reason that, way back when, Kahr was going to be a "Glock-killer", and then the Sigma, and then.... well you get the picture and I am sure I am missing a lot.

The G19 has been the benchmark for a long time. It seems the only thing that can challenge it is the next generation G19 and even then the fourth generation sells alongside the fifth.

There is a reason it is the benchmark. Any gains you might gain from whatever the challenger of the day is are going to likely be so inconsequential as to be meaningless.

Well, after reading all of the responses, I kind of "sat down until the feeling went away." I carried my G19 instead of my Shield yesterday, just to see how it carried in the new holster I got for it. She carries as easily, if not more so, in that than she did in my CBST. I really like the looks and the stats of the M&P 2.0 Compact, but I won't be selling my G19 for one. Several posters noted that the M&P makes several improvements over the G19, but nothing earth-shattering. My G19 is too solid of a performer to trade her off for that, particularly in a new release pistol. That doesn't mean I'll never buy a M&P 2.0 Compact, but I'll be keeping my Glock.

Thank you all for the time and attention you put into responding.

Sounds like you made a decision that works best for you. I have been shooting glocks for many years, all makes and models. I have only recently started shooting the MPs but I really prefer them to glocks. Price, ergonomics, and options (ie ability to choose a safety or not) all put MP over the top of glock for me.

^^^ If the M&P 2.0 Compact been available 4 years ago, I might well have bought one instead of my G19. And I'd like to get one. I just can't give up a proven pistol for it.

I’m biased but I do think that’s the good call. Over the years I’ve broken CheapShooter’s rule a number of times and found myself months later buying back the same gun. I think in this case adding rather than replacing makes sense. For a number of years I bought and sold my Glocks to try something else. I finally decided that even if they sit in the safe it’s better than losing money on trades.
