Tell me about Garands

If Garand rhymes with "Parent"

then is it pronounced with a "T" sound at the end? Or does it rhyme more closely with "errand"? (same emphasis as parent, as well as same and first and second syllable vowel sound, like parent, but with "D" sound at end, no?)
 
As a transplanted Frenchie, I will hazard that Garand was misspelled when the family entered the US or learned to rite, whichever came first.

A typical French surname is Garant pronounced like parent, jes like ol John Garand tole Julian S. Hatcher. Of course, if you really want to frenchify it, it's pronounced Ga-RO, like my last name (Chabot) Sha-BO.

Don't worry, I won't care if you call him Ga-RAND like most folks do. Jes a lil trivia.:cool:
 
Sure we are! :D :D I mean where else would my last name be pronounced A-Bear instead of He-bert as its spelled? :D
