TC Contender

Yep!!! Just got my first one last summer. A used Stainless G2 that came with a Super 14, ported, 35 Remington barrel, and a 14" Match 22 Longrifle barrel along with a Buris 1.5-4 scope. Great shooter, very accurate, lots of fun. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot this year, but the 35 Rem. was my deer "rifle".
If you are thinking about one I do have one warning. After a couple more scopes, and a 14" 223 and SSK 10" 45-70 barrel I've found them to be addictive!!! Not done yet either. 22 Hornet next, then maybe 7-30 waters or 375 JDJ!

More than I'd like to admit

Any one here shoot a contender
Absotively and although not planned, have gotten more barrels than I ever intended to get. .... ;)

Three generations of Contenders, first generation of G2's, two Encores. Two boxes sets. I prefer the Contenders, to the G2's. .....

Be Safe !!!

Had two frames, .22lr, .22M, .44M, .223, and 375JDJ. All scoped. Gave them all to a relative who has more opportunity to shoot in the woods these days. Great innovation.

Used to shoot IHMSA Field Pistol with a .22 WMR G2 Contender, great fun. Might do it again next year now that they've added Hunter class where you can use the Creedmore position.

Two frames, and barrels in .22LR, .22 Hornet, .222Rem, .30-30, 9mm Luger, .357Mag, .44 Mag, .45 Colt, .45 Colt/.410, and .45 Win Mag....so far...

Hey Amp, how long is your 9mm barrel?

I have this perpetual curiosity about how fast a 115gr. 9mm bullet can be pushed out of rifle barrels using handloads... have you chronographed any?

Daekar, its a shorty, only 6". And its sooo cute! Sticks out past the end of the foreend about an inch!:D

I haven't chrono'd it, but it has come in handy when I bet someone I have a more accurate 9mm than they do! It shoots rings around the groups from a typical autoloader!;)

Its much more accurate....just not as fast for followup shots!:D

I prefer the Contenders, to the G2's

Most people do, but I came to prefer the G2 after a trigger job. I like the grip angle better and it seemed to be easier on my wrists shooting the magnums.

Foolishly sold off my G2, would like to buy another for IHMSA Field Pistol.

Does anyone know how to identify a pre-S&W G2?

Bought my first frame/barrel - a 10" .30 Herrett - at MountainView Sports in Anchorage in 1975. Some of the chamberings I have owned or still own include:

.223 Rem
.25-35 Win
.25 Bullberry
6.5 TCU
.30 Carbine (2)
.300 Whisper
.30 Herrett (2)
.300 Savage
.32 H&R Mag
.32-20 WCF
.357 Maximum
.35 Remington
.375 WCF
.44 Mag
.45 LC (2)
.45-70 Govt
.50-70 Govt

I have three Contender frames (no G2s), one set up as a rifle. I have used most of these barrels for hunting and/or IHMSA silhouette. Still love the Contenders!
