Taurus Update

Update on my Taurus. I didn't get 100 rds in 3 days and the side plate is loose from the 4 screws. It won't cock or tripper won't move. I guess that part that's connected to the side plate come loose inside now and that's my problem. Man, I haven't had a problem in 25 years until my bolt bent and got it back from Taurus. Talking bout frustrated. Called Taurus back and they sent me a shipping label. It's going back in the morning. I could put it back tomorrow but I ain't. Let them warranty it, I wrote them a frustrated letter. Who knows, hopefully they'll send me a new pistol in exchange. Wishful thinking. I'll keep everyone posted.

What was funny woman on the phone said well we got it back in four days. I said and you're happy bout that? Now its broke again. Lol

Did you maybe try just tightening up the side plate screw?

My recollection from my (now departed) Taurus 66 of the same vintage as yours, is that there is on the side plate a spring loaded plunger and another part (the hand?). If your side plate is loose, this would certainly be affected.

I tried tightening side plate but it binds up. I guess the hand as you call it done let the plunger close and its out of place now. I could take it apart and try to put back together but let Taurus's warranty take care of it. Just have to wait alittle longer.

It's a little fiddley (<snicker>, saying it mildly) to get back into place right. I'm going on 10 year old memories. My recollection is that it is actually that spring and plunger that pushes the hand where it needs to go. You push the plunger in, set the hand in front of it, and while it's all precariously sitting in this little niche in the sideplate, put it all back together.

If it were mine, I'd remove the side plate and check.

Yes that's the problem. A simple fix like you said to take off side plate, push in plunger and sit hand where it needs to go then put all back together. The screws were left loose from factory the last time and let hand come away from plunger. I'll send it back, under warranty and its only an extra gun I only see a couple times a year. Let them fix it right.
