Taurus Tracker .45 acp effective on what animals?

If you chose the best bullet for the job, and only took a broadside (to get minimum distance to reach vitals) heart/lung shot at <= 25 yards, and can shoot accurately enough to reliably hit there, it probably would.

When you can choose anything you want, why do some people want to use the minimum they might be able to get away with though? Isn't it more ethical to use enough gun? Don't need a .458 Winchester for deer, but a .45ACP is really stretching the definition of a "deer gun".

Agreed, but the 45 Super was a good idea though. 230 grains at 1150 fps would make me feel comfortable in the woods. Wouldn't have to change all the springs & stuff either like on autos.

Minimum for Mule Deer in Utah

Last time I read the proclamation requirments were 500 foot lbs of energy at muzzle and expanding bullet of .24. For elk they require 500 foot lbs at 100 yards. I just thought that this was interesting.

I've carried a .45 acp deer hunting. I just held myself to shorter shots. As it is, I've never shot a deer with a .45.

My father has killed a deer or two with a .45 acp revolver. I can prove it; I've got the bullets. ;)

For carry in the woods, I don't see any problem with a Tracker in .45acp as a companion. I certainly believe that there are better pistols if you're looking to kill big game; a .44 Mag, .41 Mag, or even a .45 Colt, for instance. But if .45acp is what you have, you could certainly make do.

Question, does the Tracker in .45 acp allow the use of full moon clips? That's a very handy way to carry ammo, and make the 1917s a lot of fun.
