Taurus Repair Time?

I sent my .357 revolver into Taurus to get repaired. I just got a letter in the mail telling me they had recieved it and would take a look at it in 5-6 weeks. Has anyone recently had any work done or there Taurus and have any idea if this time frame is fairly accurate or not, or if this is just there standard letter they send to everyone?

They told me something like 4 to 6 weeks. After numerous times telling me it was under warranty they decided they couldn't get parts and that I "only" had to pay $200 for the replacement gun. All this took about 10 weeks. If you get it back in 6 weeks and it's actually fixed you should thank your lucky stars

Ouch, that's ugly.

Let the buyer beware when it comes to Taurus. This is the same story that I have heard for several years concerning Taurus. Yeah, they are inexpensive but there is a reason for that. It's why I won't own one.

This is the last one I will ever own. It came new out of the box with problems. First time I shot it I had problems with it. I am getting it fixed to turn around and sell it consignment. I will take a loss on it but at least I wont have to look at it anymore.

You aren't the first to get burned by Taurus.... Trust me on that one!

Even though you'll lose some money, you'll fell better when the Taurus is no longer in your collection.

taurus

It is a miami importer that handles them.they should get their own outlet.and they wont touch any that were sold before they took over.I know.they are lower priced because they are made in brazil and wages are lower.

That is why I will not buy a Taurus. I have had gun dealers tell me that if you buy a Taurus, be prepared to send it back. They tell me that the only people that don't have to send them back for warranty are the people that put them in a nightstand besides the bed, and never shoot them. I know before I get bashed, some of you have exceptions, that you have fired 100's of rounds through them without any problems. I am only telling you of my experiences.

A friend of my uncles cousin told me Taurus's were crap.So I joined Taurus armed.net which is not a company sponsored website. To my surprize they had a forum set aside for Taurus complaints, Considering they sell more than 500,000 handguns each year, 240,000 coming to the US, I was shocked to find that only about 1% are ever returned to the factory for warranty work. When Beretta lost the Brazil military contract they sold their factory in Sao Paulo to Taurus, most of the staff stayed on.A few years back they spent $20,000,000 upgrading the equipment. In 2005 the first generation 24/7 was named handgun of the year,by half doven of the most well known gun magazines, last year the Judge was named hand gun of the year by most of those same gun magazines. In December I purchased a pt 24/7 Pro Ds, the latest generation, although the OSS and 800 series are basically improvements on that model.Operation has been flawless, and if I had a complaint it would be the long take up in the trigger, but I've fired enough different guns to adapt to whatever I'm shooting. If anything in single action mode some might find trigger pull light, its perfect for me as it is almost identical to my reworked Cimarron SAA which I told was three lbs. Before I purchased mine I googled {Taurus 24/7 kabooms]there werent any, lots of Glocks popped up even a couple of HKs.Which begs to question why are the Glock people in denial!

Question: Taurus Repair Time?
Answer: All the time! :p

But seriously folks.... My friend has a Taurus that may have the most frequent flyer miles of anything on the planet. With him, it seems that Taurus is banking on his giving up and going away. After seeing his nightmare called Taurus customer service, I would never consider owning one myself. They haven't gotten it right yet and it takes months to find that out each and every time.

Judge

Sent my Judge in the first time and got the same letter and it was about right time wise. The only problem is after I got it back it only lasted 20 rounds so I am again waiting. I think I will sell it as soon as I get it back.

Well, to add my 2 cents to this, I have owned 2 Taurus revolvers for a long time without any problems at all. I try to get out to the range at least once a week. I hunt with a model 44 and my carry piece is a titanium model 627 in .357 mag. No problems to date, but maybe i got lucky.

Three trips back for same problem that reoccurred within 20 rounds the first and second times I got it back from the factory. This was $600 Titanium Tracker. Average turn around was a little over 8 weeks. They also refused to pay for shipping. With S&W, Ruger, etc. they will pay the shipping both ways for warranty work.

Sell or trade the one you have now when you get it back. There is a good chance it's not fixed right and you'll be sending it back again.

I am not in denial, I fully admit that Taurus makes some bad guns!

You did a fine job of defending Taurus right up until you started throwing bombs at other manufacturers which is known in the business as "Deflecting", my kids do that all the time too:

Me: Did you hit your sister?
Son: I saw her sneaking a cookie out of the cookie jar.
Me: [Puzzled look on my face]
Daughter: No, I didn't!
Son: Yes, you did!
Daughter: No, I didn't!
Me: Where is your mother?

If the value of your gun is based on the [poor] value of other guns, then your gun has got issues! As far as gun magazines giving high praise, I also saw a favorable write up of a Hi-Point in a major gun magazine, not gonna run out and get one of those either. Advertising revenue is the driving factor in the majority of articles you read in the major magazines. Trust me, I like the glossy photos as much as the next guy, but I also take what I read with a grain of salt. I owned a Taurus PT-92 in the past, I had zero problems, I would own one again but I have seen two pistols blow up at the range, both were Taurus' (Both were Millennium's, one a .40, I don't recall the other caliber). I have never seen a Glock blow up despite shooting thousands of round through 4 of them and being around 100's of other Glocks on the range. I also have heard nothing but horror stories from people about Taurus customer service and this thread seems to bear that out. I am glad you have had a good experience with your Taurus, but I think that "friend of my uncles cousin" might have actually been on to something.

For the record, anytime you start off a post with "friend of my uncles cousin", your credibility is going to take a beating. Just saying.

I had to send one in to them a couple of years ago. It was fixed and back in my hands in about 7 weeks. I was expecting a lot longer wait but was pleasantly surprised.

In '07, I sent my PT140 Pro back for warranty repair. One of the two pins holding the ejector had disappeared and the ejector was wobbling on the second one.

I spent $50 in Brown Clown Overnight and was contacted IIRC within two weeks that it was being fixed. A short time later, I received my gun back and the ejector fastening was much improved. I'm positive I didn't wait near a month for it, could have been less.

I only had to pay to send it out, and I probably didn't need to spend that much on shipping. What would a local gunsmith have charged?

Yeah, other gun manufactures will pay shipping both ways. But, my S&W 642 only had a one year warranty. So while shipping may be free, what is out-of-warranty work, $60/hr?

It all comes down to what the individual thinks is fair. If you want immediate response within a year warranty, research other manufacturers. If you want your 15 year old revolver fixed under warranty, Taurus might have the right customer value for you.

I have called a few times to order parts. I feel they came in at a timely manner, it must have been at good times, because I've only had one part back ordered (it was spare anyway, and they didn't charge separate shipping).

Anyway, that's my limited experience. I might have just caught Taurus at the right times. And I'm mentioning this so there's at least one positive Taurus Customer Service story in this thread.
