Taurus PT92 AF ?

I love my Taurus PT-92 stainless 9mm, and I've also purchased a Beretta 92 air pistol, which weighs about as much as a loaded gun. I used to have a Beretta 9mm and found it was substantially better made and more accurate. Now things have changed. The newer Taurus pistols, however, are substantially better made than those in the 80s, and the 80s guns weren't bad. If Taurus put in as much effort in quality control for its revolvers as it does its Beretta clones, oh what a world we'd live in!

I took it shooting today for the first time with all the original parts still in place. Out of 100 rounds it was 100% perfect.

I was able to shoot some tiny groups with it too! My very first shots out of the gun ended up being a 1 and 5/8", 15 round group at 7 yards. I even managed to shoot three separate 3 shot groups a little later in which all the holes were touching at 7 yards.

It's a very nice shooting gun. The trigger feels good too. Also, out of the two shots I took in double action, both of them were dead center on the target.

I'm starting to think that I will care for this gun just as much as I do for my Beretta. Kind of funny because I paid exactly twice as much for my Beretta. Although my Beretta is in like new condition.

I'm glad I got this Taurus.

Mellow, I understand what you are saying about fitting the locking block. That makes sense. My PT99 was built during the late '80's.

When the locking block broke, it broke in 2 places and locked up the barrel, slide and frame. At the time, no one knew that the "fix" for getting it apart was to cut the barrel. So, the manipulation of the slide ground some of the locking block shards into the aluminum frame. This left the frame rails very rough in some places and they had to be sanded and polished. After all of this, I ditched the gun for $200 trade credit toward a S&W 659. I still have the 659. IIRC, the PT99 cost about $380 new in 1988-89.

Nice score. They are about $300 around here. We (dad, brother, and I) each have PT 99AF's all bought new. Mine is 1987 brother's is 1991, and dad's is 1983.

I bought a PT92 new in 1991. It's been a great shooter over the years, and its accuracy easily equals that of my Beretta 92.

The Taurus broke a lug on its locking block a little less than a year ago. It took some patience and some "precision" manipulation of the block, but I was able to get the gun apart without having to destroy anything. I replaced the broken block with the Beretta locking block kit. The block did not require any special fitting, and the gun functions as well as it did before the break.

I paid $295 for my gun brand new. I doubt that I'd sell it for that today. Here's a pic...

Sometimes I wonder if this motivates some of the "haters". When my Star or Taurus or Rock Island Armory or whatever shoots every bit as good as their equivalent gun that cost two or three times as much... is that why they rant and rave like they do? I guess I can't blame them for being frustrated. :)
