Taurus phone extension to a person who will help?

Thank you for this thread. For some weird reason I was overcome with the desire to go buy that .380 ACP revolver Taurus makes. The thought was in my head that I just really really wanted one. And probably it would work OK, and if I did encounter a problem I could send it in to Taurus and it would be no big deal if it took them a long time to fix it or it made multiple trips back cuz I've got other guns to fire...

Whatever weird compulsion it was - reading this thread dispelled it and I'm back to my sane rational self.

A dishonest man show contempt for himself.

I never said be dishonest, I said to look into selling it "AS IS." Just as any used firearm is purchased or sold.

To a store, for the record, that will likely fix it or have it fixed prior to resale.

A lifetime warranty is only as good as the service behind it.

That's it in a nut shell. I am also a former Taurus owner. Mine happened to be pretty good, sold it for other reasons.

Just a lesson to be learned. Ruger and Smith say nothing about lifetime warranty. They just take care of any problem you have with no questions asked. They don't even care about year of purchase.......they just promptly fix any problems.

Lifetime warranty is just printing on paper, nothing more, nothing less. In the case of Taurus it is usually less.

BTW, it's not all about price. Taurus is really not that low priced. There are others out there with a low or lower price that do much better for QC and customer service. Having said that, Taurus has found they have a niche. According to their business statements they continue to make good profits.

I doubt they are going to change their stripes.

You did what I didn't...I acted on that weird impulse and got suckered in by the "LIFETIME WARRANTY".

My experience with Taurus has been excellent. I can't say anything personally about their customer service, because my Judge Public Defender Poly has been trouble free! It hasn't got the shooting some of my others have, but about 150 rounds of 45 Colt. From cowboy action loads to Winchester PDX1. Also about 50 rounds of 410. Federal handgun buckshot, Remington handgun buckshot, Winchester PDX1 defense discs, and Winchester field load 7 1/2's All trouble free.
I guess I got one of the good ones!:D

In a way mine has also been good. My one Taurus, PT945, was actually very reliable. I sold it because It was not accurate.....for me anyway. But I still will not buy another Taurus. I have seen and read too much over a long period of time that makes me believe that Taurus QC control is not in the league with most other major gun manufactures. And I do not think it is all price related. You can get good quality at lower prices.

Yes you can definitely have a Taurus that gives you no problems, I just think the odds of having a lemon are too high......for me anyway.

I bought a 740 slim because it was on sale, very good price for a kick-around pistol.

I got it to experiment with .40, it's my only one. I do not carry it, it's a range beater.

That being said, while I am awful with it regarding accuracy beyond 7 yards, the things been nothing but 100% reliable through hundreds of rounds, better even than my old Glock 19 I sold. Still, it's for range training only.

I don't care if it breaks, I'll never send it for repair. It will be destroyed by me and tossed.

I guess they are hit and miss.

Digging this up in case anyone was interested. Taurus never would let me speak to anyone other then the receptionist who answers the phones. I filed a complaint with the BBB and put a full refund as my wanted resolution. 30 days later Taurus sends a notice that they agree to give a full refund. No arguments or conditions like "let us try to fix it once more, we'll give you a replacement". I sent the gun in and got my check yesterday. The check is for the exact amount I paid a year and a half ago. I was pretty surprised since the BBB doesn't actually have any power. They can only do things because most places agree that they can. I'm pretty happy about it, I really thought Taurus would just say "we don't care" and I'd be sending it in every couple weeks or selling it for a big loss. Don't mistake this as me finding any respect for Taurus. I see it as they know that they sold me garbage, they know they cant fix it, and they know I would bug them constantly for years.

Well done, sir. The BBB strikes fear in the heart of any business who wants to remain reputable. That's definitely a power ;)

First, thanks for the fallow up.

You held your ground, and it "paid off", good, bad, or indifferent.

When I sent my handgun to them for a fix, I sent a nice note, with candy, and spicy beef jerky treats. They sent me a new gun, but it had different serial numbers. That's OK with me!:D

PS: I'm sure they didn't give you all your loses, like time and money/expencise.

After all, my $235 gun turned out to be about $350+, but my paper weight works now.

No more Taurus's for me, unless....I can find another 9mm snub for $275. they are the only gun company that still makes them, darn you S&W.

Just curious, did anybody warn you about Taurus?

At the time I did not know about their reputation. I figured since they're a big name that I see around a lot they must be pretty good.

And therein lies the problem. People are constantly warned about Taurus (and others, as well) and choose not to listen.

Taurus wouldn't be in biz long if there stuff was as crummy as people say. The poster provided no details or pictures on what was wrong with his gun and so I'm suspicious. And I find it hard to believe it wasn't fixed after more than one trip back. And guess what, I've had to send my Ruger LCR and $1,200 Kimber .45 back for service -- any weapon can have issues.

Finally, the BBB DOES have power ... just look on your state's BBB website the next time you deal with a vendor on a big ticket item and you can see if there are complaints about the company and, if so, how they handled them. Florida actually gives them a letter grade A, B, C, etc.

The best news in this post is that the person has learned how to deal with companies he has an issue with (real or just perceived) to get a satisfactory outcome.

I too had to send in an Ruger SP101, and a S&W Performance Center gun ($1700) in, but, it was not a pain in the butt like he had.

Wow you caught me. It was all I lie. My judge actually worked perfectly the day I bought it, I haven't sent it more then 5 times, Taurus did not send it back to me in pieces, and Taurus did not take the gun back and write me a check. You are too good for me.

Giving a company a grade is not power. The BBB can not force a company to do anything. They can threaten to lower the companies BBB score, that's it. I can start giving scores to companies too.

I really don't care what you think of the situation. All I care about is Taurus admitted they cant give me a working product and gave money back.

crummy stuff

Having been around a while, I was early on aware of Taurus.
I avoided them, as some who didn't taught me.
Then, around '94, I met a couple plainclothes wearing PT22s as back-ups. They'd done a bit of dehorn and blending work for less bleeding, but were otherwise pro-PT22 enough to use them in real life.
I bought one and still 'have it with me' every day.

NOTHING I've observed about Taurus revolvers makes me in any way inclined to keep even a free one.
Last year a student of mine bought one, shot it, 'broke' it, swapped it for a GP100 and a 642.
His friend bought one, shot it, 'broke' it, returned it for warranty service, got it back, shot it, 'broke' it, rid himself of it.

Too familiar a story, especially after all these years....

Ruger and S&W offer a better crap-shoot; know what I mean?

I also appreciate the update. I would have to disagree with you a bit on the respect -- Taurus paid out the full sale price of the handgun, and while the efforts along the way have certainly soured you (with good right), I would have to give 'em a little respect to paying out.

WESHOOT2, my experience has been contrary to yours. We have a Taurus 669, 6-inch .357 Mag revolver circa 1989 in the family, and it's a quality build and still works well. I bought a PT-99AF in '94 and it's still a rugged shooter and runs like a top with my handloads.

However, my one go-round with a PT-22 was nothing but a series of broken recoil levers. Taurus CS even did right by me and mailed me two of them at my request, and I broke the replacement a mere 75-80 rounds in to it.

I would not trust a PT-22... but I do like the design of them and I found it silly accurate for a tiny little rimfire pistol.

wheels

I do not poop on Taurus. I mention the odds.
I instead a suggest a better crap-shoot with a S&W or Ruger choice.

It's like cars; every brand can make a good one, but some brands offer better odds.
