Taurus OSS 45acp broke today

Oh wow. That's some bad customer service.

Let me just say that this is literally the only reason I buy Ruger over Taurus. Taurus makes some really attractive budget firearms but I've just heard too many bad customer service stories like this. I would rather pay an extra $50 - 100 up front and know that I will get decent customer service. Now that isn't to say I haven't heard bad customer service stories involving Ruger. There are plenty. But whereas with Ruger bad customer service seems to be the exception, with Taurus it almost seems to be the rule.

On paper, most of the guns they make are so compelling at the price point they offer, but if you're going to get treated like a jerk over any problem whatsoever then is it really worth it?

Worst part about this mess is that they are willing to sell me a "restricted" part, but won't give me one as a replacement under their lifetime warranty unless the pistol is sent in on my dime.

It doesn't make sense. Why give me a free placement pin only if I send the pistol in? I specifically told them I would send in the broken part before they ship the new part and they said no. So it's only "restricted" when I want it for free as a replacement under warranty, but it's not "restricted" when they want to sell it to me.

Taurus can go to hell. What a sour experience. :mad:

That really sucks. When I buy a gun, I like knowing they'll stand behind their products without having the customer jump through flaming hoops for service. That's the reason I've stuck with Ruger and S&W for the most part.

Just solidifies my resolve to avoid Taurus products like the plague.

@Evil_Monkey

I can only guess at Taurus's motives in this case. Maybe a user with more insight into the firearms customer service industry could properly explain it?

All I can say is that, from a consumer perspective, that's not the type of customer service experience I ever want to have.

when you say take down pin, are you referring to the slide stop pin? if so, are there any regular 1911 shooters that don't have a spare one of these already?
