Taurus OSS 45acp broke today

Was shooting at the range and had an issue with the slide locking back for no reason while shooting. Tried to clear and reload again and it kind of hung up trying to go into battery.

Took a closer look and saw that the take down pin was mis-positioned. I spun it to take it out and the outside piece fell onto the table. My take down pin was broke!

NOOOO! I still have ammo to shoot! After examining the pistol, I realized the bar of the take down pin that was still in the weapon was able to take a load. So I shot over 100 more rounds without a problem.

This pistol has had over 2,700rds through it.

Dang, I wanted to sell it too. Certainly not like this, now I have to get another pin from Taurus. I hope they have them in stock because this is the older 24/7 pistol.

Have you guys ever broke a take down pin? At what round count?

Hmmm...my question is how do you get the fiddly-bit out of the Taurus to replace it?
If it's too difficult I would send the whole thing back.

On that note I would give it a good looking over too. Make sure nothing else is wrong before I gave them a call. Make sure they give you a shipping label too! ;)

After a little bit of info digging, I found I can just order another from Taurus for like 15-20 dollars.

The pin is not tightly in place and can rotate a little bit, thanks to the galling of the aluminum frame (Taurus, you're killing me....):D edit: may bad, it seems like the aluminum frame embedded in the plastic grip also has a steel insert where the pin goes through. It could be that the steel insert is galled (highly unlikely) or that that takedown pin was too thin in the first place, which is the reason it can rotate.

By pushing the retaining spring out of the way, some needle nosed pliers could be used to remove the pin.

Interesting that the pin did not shear. Instead it looks like it cracked right off. MIM perhaps? lol

Nope, never have. Not even the el-cheapo Kel Tec PF9.

This pistol has had over 2,700rds through it.

Which, really, ain't nothin'.

Lotta drama here. I don't think I'd have complained to the Internet until after my negative experience with Taurus Customer Service.

Have you asked Taurus to send you one?

I will call this week.

Don't jump to conclusions. I was NOT dogging on Taurus in my initial post. Just sharing an incident and seeing if others have had pins break like this.

Good luck calling their phone. I have never had any luck with them answering. Best way is to message them through FaceBook and leave a phone number and email with the problem. They contacted me on my cell.

I was on hold for a while when I called them a while ago, but unfortunately that's kinda the way a lot of things go nowadays. I would definitely call to see if they will send you a new one. I would probably buy the new pin before paying for shipping back to Taurus.

I had a Taurus 24/7 the brother to the oss in 40 s&w a couple years ago the gun was great but I had the same problem as you. The take down pin sheared during an idpa match the gun remained functional but I had to use pliers to take the pin out. I got a new one and the gun kept chugging after that, the gun had about 3500 rounds of hot bp issue hollow point ammo thru it at that time.

Jeez.......I was on hold for a half hour then I just gave up. This is ridiculous.

Gonna have to try this every morning this week and if I don't get an answer, I'm getting rid of it as is.

No experience with Taurus CS. but most companies nowadays have a live chat or at least an email option to get service. Have you tried either of those options? It doesn't seem that your inquiry should require a lot of back-and-forth.

Day 2, half hour on the phone, no answer. Gave up again.

I'm already getting sick and tired of the music they play. And those retarded automated "advertisement drops" too.

"Did you know, you can buy Taurus accessories on our website?"

I'm thinking, "Did you know, your customer service blows?"

I know e-mail wont get me anywhere. i don't have a facebook or anything like that and dont want to. What is live chat? Is that a Taurus contact method or something related to facebook?

Live chat is not unique to Taurus. I don't even know if they have that feature. Basically, it's an instant messenger application where you are typing back and forth with a live representative.

Don't discount email. Again, I don't have any experience with Taurus CS, but I have had questions of Springfield Armory CS on several occasions and have always gotten a reply within one business day.

Consider that everybody who is anybody at a gun company is at SHOT this week.

Taurus has a Facebook page, and they have a street address.

Well I finally got to talk to someone over there at Taurus.

Long story short, they want $18 for the damn pin. Or I send the gun in to have them fix it under their BS warranty and I have to pay for shipping!!!!

i asked if i can send in the broken part and they can give me a new one, they said no. Apparently, the take down pin is a "restricted part" and it's too dangerous to install it yourself. Really?

So it's either pay for the part or pay for shipping. I hung up.

No more Taurus crap.

P.S., if they had the part online for sale, I may have bought one before, seeing how it was impossible to reach them. But to give me some total BS about a lifetime warranty and then pull a stunt like this is unacceptable.
