Taurus Opinions

None of my four Taurus handguns have ever failed to perform.
At one point in time, I even had the PT-908...no troubles out of it either. The PT-908 was said to have had some serious problems and was later replaced with the Pt-911.

I have quite a bit of respect for the products of Taurus International.

Chu-Ching, I'm with Navigator. Too many worst case
scenario's on Taurus product's, for me. :( :D

Taurus opinions? AHHH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! WAH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Stop!!! Oh, PLEASE stop!!! You're killing me!!! AHHH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (pant, pant, pant...phew!).

I've been waiting five months---FIVE MONTHS---for the osteocephali at Taurus to send back my brand new titanium M627. A couple of standard-pressure rounds that I put through it... and the cylinder face just rotted away.

I've called them six times already. Each time they lied through their teeth, telling me that they'd have it ready in a couple of weeks. What does "week" mean in Florida anyway? If they had told me that they would have it ready by a couple of weaks, then I'd understand. But that is clearly not what they said.

They'd better make it up to me somehow, 'cause I've just about lost my faith in their product and customer service.

Satisfaction guaranteed. Uh-huh

Satisfaction guaranteed. Whose? Theirs?

Satisfaction guaranteed.

HAH!!!

I am a HUGE weelgun fan, and have owned at least one of pretty much everything.

Taurus quality has much improved compared to their early days. Smith has gone downhill IMHO. They are much closer now than they were in say the late 80's...or even early 90's. Me...I much prefer a P&R smith to ANY new wheelgun made. NOTHING compares in quality to say a 50's to late 70's smith in quality, fit, finish, or accuracy, reliability or any other quantifiable area of importance.

For the money I dont think Taurus has the best to offer. For the money a UL85 will run you ($350+/-?) you can have a HIGH quality pre-owned S&W 638 or some oother airlight that suits your eye. For me the 638 airlight is probably the best bang for the dollar...new or pre-owned for a super lightweight 38 snub. The only other one that comes close would be the Colt Cobra in the $300 range. The 638 has the advantage of being +p rated...but my father has shot nothign but +p form his cobra for years. The old colt even holds 6 shots vs. 5 and uses K frame speedloaders.

I highly reccomend pre-owned QUALITY vs. new "good deal". We're talking guns that you are planning to save your life with, I prefer to leave as little to chance as possible. Find an airweight 638 and you wont be dissapointed...and if you are ...I'll buy it from you for cost.

Smith is coming back. Hang on. I say save your money and keep that P95. In the scheme of things, $400.00 is not that much money and if you operate within that frame of mind, you will find that your overall financial platform expands. Stick a little money back each pay check and before you know it, you will have that Smith and Wesson revolver and the joy of owning a weapon that will be serviced efficiently for years to come.

Take it from a dirt poor Arkansan who was picking tomatoes at the ripe age of 11 years. If I had it all to do over again, I would have kept 90% of the weapons I traded in. Gunshops make their money off of accessories and trade in firearms from saps like me.

I've never had any problems with any of the Tauri I have owned. You'll always hear the anti-Taurus opinions....muck like the anti-Glocks and anti-Mossbergs. To each his own...that's why they make so many different flavors of ice-cream.....

Ditto on the Taurus 85.
I bought mine new last November for
$250. Trigger, lockup etc. are first rate. Friends and family with Smiths and Colts have been surprised and impressed with the quality.

Mike

TAURUS HANDGUNS

Well.......Muck??.......I had a dealer tell me that he has to inspect all Taurus handguns before he puts them in his showcase. As
a result of his inspection, he has to send over 1/2 of them back.

Good quality control by Taurus???

Navigator,
You've just seen several posts from Taurus revolver owners, all expressing good experiences with their guns.
What's the problem?
Mike

TAURUS QUALITY

I have no particular problem as I do not own a Taurus. I have
Beretta, S&W, Sig and Colt. It's just that I know of some guys that have had significant problems and, even with the warrantee,
sending a firearm back to Taurus is not cheap, can experience a long turnaround tme and even then continue to have problems. Combined with what the dealer told me, I have opted not to buy the Taurus brand despite their cheap cost...tempting, but no.:)

TAURUS QUALITY

Sounds like they can be good if you get a good one. Apparently
their quality control may be hit-or-miss.

Or maybe you get what you pay for....don't know.

I must have "hit" on all four of mine. I have a Model 85, 605, 66, and PT111. All perform flawlessly. I guess I am just a lucky man.

I got an archaic Model 82 with scuffed bluing for a whopping $99. Before I shot it, my brand new little kitten widdled right into the sideplate when I had it out of the case to get cleaned and lubed.

That earned the kitten the name "Peabody". Forgive him, he wasn't feeling well.

The revolver didn't care. I hosed it out with steaming hot water, and blew it off. It smelled a little funny the first time I shot it, but it worked fine. It's one of the MOST accurate revolvers I own. It'll do 8" groups at 100 yards all day long with $20/250 LSWC reloads when I can see that good. Certainly no milkjug is safe at that range. That's pretty good for an old Taurus purchased for under $100. And that's shooting it DA OR SA! This one has a really nice trigger. Someone shouldn't have sold it. It looks beat, but it's a sleeper. It's just about the best deal I've ever gottten on a handgun in the context of value for dollar.

Now, my new Tracker is a different story, but not by much. It cost more, ($369) but it's stainless medium-frame .41 mag, a unique offering, and it seeems to dote on PMC 215 grn. LSWC's. It has given me no problems at all, and it's plenty accurate, although not quite as tight as the 82. The qualiy of this gun is right up there with my Mountain Gun in fit and finish, and I really like the Ribber grip.

Based on my experiences with Taurus wheelguns, I would have no hesitations about buying another one. Unfortunately, my stupid state doesn't allow the full range to be sold here thanks to the drop-test extortion racket, so the ones I want, like the .45 LC snubbie and the 12" bbl. Sillhouette model, are not in my future yet.

Hey H_R_G aka L_H_R:
I haven't seen much of you since the stun gun tests. I just wanted to say that one of those Taurus snubies in .45LC is an item that is high on my shopping list. I happen to live in state with far less restrictive gun laws about the only thing that realy gripes me about Washington is that we can't have machine guns. I'm not familiar with the California drop test. But then none of the ridiculous legislation coming out of Sacramento would surprise me.
