Taurus: a question, not a bash.

also quite abundant in terms of second hand stock. A sign many were sold, or a sign that many weren't satisfied?

I think it's the latter not the former.
I have one Taurus that has worked just fine, but I will not buy another.

One of the early posters made a good point...that being, your chances of getting a good Taurus is about 50/50. Especially since you are far from the mother ship, you must try before you buy--at least 100 rounds, preferably 200. This will increase (not insure) your chances of having a satisfactory ownership experience.

To give an example. Honda bikes are supposed to be well made and reliable, but bikes made before about 2002-5, especially in the 80s and 90s were better made, with a better finish and seemed to be tougher.
Don't know where this came from, but I have been riding since 1970. I have owned (at last count) 70 bikes (five currently, although only one is a modern street bike). I've owned at least eight 80s/90s Hondas, as well as an '03 and my current '08. I don't own a car, so my bike is my sole form of transportation. Each Honda is better than the last.

Off topic:
Bikes are also my sole personal means of transport (as long as sidecars count: I have one of those too), but this is not purely my own experience. In my bike forums, as well as people in my close circle, I have seen an increase in problems with Hondas. Namely in finish, rather than mechanics.
They are not the biking Taurus, by any means, but IMHO, they run the risk of dropping the ball. You and I are a rarer breed as most now ride for fun, hence lower mileages, hence bikes do fewer miles.

Back on topic:
Unfortunately, trying the Taurus prior to buying is not possible. All I know is that it belonged to a girl who has handed it in the the gun store on commission sale. It would be the flip of a coin as to whether this were a good one: hoping I am lucky...
