Taurus 2nd Gen?

Nope, Taurus sells them exactly that way. That isn't my actual pistol but the one I have is identical. It's ridiculous isn't it? I love it. It sits nicely next to my chrome plated Star BM with pearlized grips lol. Those are my two sissy pistols :)

grumpybottom. I have found the tuarus to be picky with aggressive wide-opening hollow-points, like gold-dots and sierra sportmaster for 380, not 9mm. packing 13 rounds in that little gun required a very steep feed ramp and doesn't like bullets that mimick the shape of a flat nose. the two bullets it hates for me are the 90gr sierra sportmaster, very wide mouth and the lee 358-125-RF(not meant for 9mm, but sized down it is an accurate round in most my 9mm, but it has a bg flat top. it feeds any mildly pointy bullet well, any of the Hornady HP's,tipped or not, golden sabres feed well( they have the shape similar to a round-nose, the 9mm sierra bullets feed great. I tested so many rounds I cannot remember at the time, but anything with a nice taper or point before the hollow-point cavity doesn't have issue. Hornady seems to be the best round for it, any of them from 90-147, flex-tip or not. HST is flawless. Remington UMC JHP, fiocci, Winchester. most are flawless by the way, there are only a few that it doesn't ike, the ones that are seated long with a large flat top. that's the price of hi-cap in a 8 round sized package. avoid Gold-dot, hydra-shock, cor-bon, things like those that have those massive mouths and seat long., they lend well to clogging anyways and I would always preferred a tipped bullet for SD.

CZ9, Ok i will have to concede this one, still green, gold and silver ...ugh ! But i too have a Star BKM chrome with peral grips that is a neat shooter.

even umc ball nose dives the ramp with the slide release on a fresh magazine. ill be polishing the ramp to try to improve this, but slingshotting works fine. another 150 last night without a failure in the g2, but its still brutally inaccurate. I wouldnt trust this thing more than a truck gun personally...beyond 10' its all but worthless

I'd wait/save for the Glock. Taurus is a known brand not a name brand. This is true before the Internet. I've never heard of a high round count Taurus.

If anyone says good gun "for the money" don't buy that gun for personal defense. I guess it would be OK for plinking with at the range.

High rnd Count IMO would be about 30K for alloy and toward 100K for full size steel. Good maintenance with springs replaced with no breakages. Calibers 9mm and 45ACP. Round count for 40S&W, 357 Sig and others probably less.

sounds like you guys have a lot of experience with Taurus and especially the G2 specifically. thanks for sharing your knowledge on the subject, it was very helpful. I should toss my perfectly running G2 that I have shot 2000 reliable rounds through into the trash and get a glock immediately. thank you for probably saving my life. I should also toss my 85 that is about 20 years old and has had multiple thousands of trouble free accurate shots, it'll probably go off like a hand grenade shortly, my wife will be sad to lose her Taurus 605 though, she really likes it. It's odd that out of all these taurus' that have never needed a trip back to the shop, I have only had to deal with that from S&W, Berretta or SCCY. That's must be what defines a great "defensive" gun, issues that require factory repair, now I know.

I don't carry the G2 because of it's cost. I have a shield which I really like, a CZ75 compact, tristar.canik T100. the latter are to big, and the shield is really nice, but the G2 is a superior carry pistol, IN MY OPINION, than the shield, haven't touched it since I got the G2.

btw: that's great that high round count is 30- 100k rounds, did you notice all the expensive brand names on that article that didn't make even to 10k without needing multiple repairs? guess that doesn't matter since we have ruled that repairs are a good trait

My guess is that if you put 100k rounds through a 9mm (which would cost around $33,000 retail) you can bite the bullet and pay another few hundred bucks for a new Taurus lol.

A buddy of mine got one last week and we fired a few hundred rounds. So far so good. Great size for the amount of rounds it holds.

I bought a G2 at a gun show for about $230. So far I've only put about 500-600 rounds through it, from cheap steel case stuff to high-dollar Hornady defense loads. Everything from 115gr fmj to 147gr HP's....I've had ZERO failures with it. It handles recoil extremely well, and is very comfortable to shoot. The trigger is just borderline excellent. It has one of the shortest "resets" I've seen in a striker fired handgun.
The only issue I have had with it is that it's tough to get that 12th round in the mag... but I can live with that.
It's small, but substantial feeling..... it just feels "right". Fit and finish are excellent. If it didn't have the Taurus name on it, you'd think you were handling a Sig or Beretta.
It will be the best $200 you've ever spent on a handgun, I'll wager....

Follow up

So the PT111 G2 is headed back to Taurus. After some playing around (can't believe I didn't think of it earlier) I realized that the failure to feed on first round slide release was because the mags aren't seating fully. There was 1/16" of play or more when seated, and it actually rattled a little, so I tried holding it up and tight and voila, perfect feeds, even jhp, from slide lock release. So, a very helpful fellow named Terry volunteered to send me a prepaid FedEx, and said probably 2-3 weeks despite their normal time being quoted at 4-6 since it was probably just a mag catch replacement issue. While it's in, they'll be sighting it in, because even at full adjustment from a rest I'm still getting huge issues to the left (like 3-6" at 10' huge). So, pleased with their CS so far, we'll see what happens when it comes back. I'm truly hopeful, as aside from accuracy and that slingshot issue, I really like the little guy.

It didn't take long - Taurus sent it back with new magazine release, spring, and magazine, as well as a nicely sighted in target - I received it yesterday. Just over 2 weeks total time start to finish, I certainly can't complain. Will put some rounds through it this afternoon hopefully, but very satisfied with Taurus customer service so far!
