It comes down to reaction speed, firing under movement, and luck.
I thought we were talking about ultimate accuracy shooting from a rest or better-yet a vise, not combat tactics.... But hey, there are already plenty of tangents here, let's bring on another one!

Not sure why you are asking me then. I didn't bring that aspect up. Just responded to it.

And I did specifically respond to the OP. Sig X5/X6 is probably going to be more accurate than most anything currently produced on the market without going semi or full custom, or going to some oddball import like a Korth. It also has the features needed to shoot the gun accurately, which allows the shooter to exploit the gun's ,mechanical accuracy. The P7 may very well be mechanically more accurate. But it's hard to harness that with the thick combat sights and flat grips. The Sig is a target gun. The HK is not.

I never suggested the X5/x6 would be suitable for carry.

But you did seem to change horses in mid stream, from mindset and 10-ft confrontations, quick reactions and luck, to precision, in the same response. ;)

Our differences (which may not really be that great) behind us, I hope these discussion remains THEORY for all of us. I also hope that foresight (possibly as important as mindset) keeps us from the places that leads us into situations that make using a handgun necessary.

Believe it or not, I'm more concerned about dog attacks than human attacks, although there have been a few home invasions in this part of NC of late. Then, unless you're "carrying" in the house, you've got to be able to move quickly to where your weapon is stored...

Being an owner of pretty much all the high end target 9mms...

Yes, I saw some of your posts with pics of your pistols. You are a person who clearly knows what you are talking about when it comes to pistol accuracy.

One pleasant surprise I did get with a 9mm was just changing a barrel on a Beretta 92 with a KKM drop-in barrel. That one change made that pistol a shooter. I noticed a lot of the "Hardball" Berettas built by top smiths were using KKM barrels (along with a lot of accurizing work). I was hoping for some improvement but it got my 92 easily under 2" @ 25 yards. That barrel does not foul much at all and is also very easy to clean indicating IMHO that it is also finished very smooth. I would not hesitate to get another.

You seemed to bring that aspect up in response #97... when you chided me for mentioning accuracy and precision (saying I hadn't read enough on the subject) and then went on to write about up-close (10ft) confrontations in which mindset, volumes of fire, and fast response times were critical to success.

You also said, in a later response, "If I miss CNS, it's not because I had a loose chamber or loose frame to slide fit."

I agree: if you do miss the CNS, it will NOT be due to a loose chamber of loose frame-to-slide fit -- as neither of those things play much role in handgun accuracy.

It also appears you will be far more steely-nerved than most of us when the proverbial bear comes out of the woods to get you. Good for you.

As for pure accuracy from a handgun, it was mentioned about JoeL's video with his customized CZ P-09. Here is his shooting at 100 yards from a rest.

I couldn't do that on my best day with an Archangel steadying my aim!

This is my best with a closely similar CZ P-09, Cajun Gun Works Pro Package installed and professionally tuned, night sights added, using handloads, five rounds.

In case that one was a fluke, I did it again, pretty similarly.

That was two hand standing. I would have to say, from the incredibly small sampling seen, that the CZ P-09 certainly has the accuracy potential that you may be seeking, especially when upgraded with the Cajun Gun Works Pro Carry package. I haven't shot a more accurate 9mm pistol yet, however I certainly wouldn't mind trying a SiG P-210, long known as the gold standard for 9mm accuracy, and that actually being a service sidearm! However, the price tag will most likely forever keep it well out of reach. :(

This is one reason I was happy to add a Cajun Gun Works Pro Carry package to our Christmas Gift Giving. Gunsmith Dave is quite the generous guy!http://cajungunworks.com/

The one where Joe is impressing the snot out of everyone was 100 yards. The targets I posted I shot at 25 yards, two hand standing. MUCH less impressive. Target is 14" by 9".

What about the Sphinx 3000?

I've never even seen one. Personally, I don't think they really exist.

They were imported in extremely small quantities by Kriss several years ago. The price was the biggest reason there wasn't much demand here. High-end CZ75/Tanfoglio-based guns are more of a European thing, while shooters here will pay premiums for 1911s. All that to say, they're reasonably popular in Europe for shooting sports.

I've heard accuracy is quite good, as you'd expect, on the order of <2" at 25 meters.

I know. I was making a Princess Bride joke...

I know, I assumed you were the same George from the High Road and knew they existed.

Just 'splainin' why hardly anyone's ever actually seen one.

So... you know I know they exist. I didn't know you knew I knew they exist, but you knew that I didn't know that you knew that I knew they exist.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. (And I don't post at The High Road, so I don't know that you knew that I... ah forget it).
