Take the poll: What weapon would you want to defend yourself from an intruder.

Would you like to give us some details on that?

Anything evil enough to stop an attacker. A .45, a loaded 12 Gauge, or
of course, a silent death: a samurai sword. Happened 20 years ago in
the canton of Zurich. Burglar went inside, didn't expect the
inhabitant to be training Iai-do in the midst of the night.

A clear cut later, he apparently called a cleaning service, and the
police. It seems the police's never seen such a nice anatomical view
of a human body ever since. :)

I keep the 835 Ulti-mag with #8 shot close by the bed. Keep the turkey choke in it too. Shot a B27 target at 15yds once. That made a believer out of me.

A Mossberg 12g loaded w/ double 00, and a few slugs as well.

If that fails, I could always whip out my lightsaber... (no blood or mess, it'd cauterize 'im!) ;)

Intelligence.

It has saved my ass more times than any of the above, with the possible exception of the attack Dachshund.

There you go again Papercut, :confused:how do you do those custom smilies? E-mail me if you will. I promise not to use them on The Firing Line . --plinker2--

25 years ago I was watching TV and heard a noise outside, looking out the window I noticed 2 sets of legs sticking out the windows of an oldsmobile my old man had for sale in the front yard. I yelled out the window and these 2 punks took off running, I grabbed my 12gauge pump and jumped in the olds and took off after them. By the time I had retreived my shotgun and got the car on the road, I caught a glimpse of one turning the corner. I drove up to the corner and noticed the punk diving into the tall grass alongside a canal, I drove up across the road from him and ran across the street. As I closed on his position I racked the slide, he jumped up eyes wide open and hollering don't shoot (quite a memorable site). About a minute later a VW pulled up, a dude gets out and walks over and asks me whats up, I asked him to call police. 2 minutes later 3 cruisers pull up and the guy in the VW is with them, he was an off duty oficer coming home from the gym. They ended up catching his partner and no charges were filed, they said that they were looking for smokes. The best part of the whole deal, was the officers were cool about me holding this turd at gunpoint.

I have to think that *someone* would select 'bedroom slipper' for this???

Papercut- I know, I am just waiting to for some wise a** to plug like a 1000 votes for bedroom slipper, I just thought it would be worth a laugh or two.

Ok I have to get in this I cannot let it pass. Coinneach has the right idea, no mess no fuss and no noise. BUT
12-34HOM I have to ask how you are going to grip that tomcat? I envision his head tucked under you right arm, left hand holding the tail staight up and the right hand activating the unsafe trigger what does not have a trigger guard. Is he a single shot or a repeater? Do you have to cock him after each shot or is he an automatic loader? How hard do you have to squeeze the safety to get him to fire? I realize that these are technical questions that should be asked on the pistol board, but I felt I could get quicker answer here on the original board where the question came up. The other question is does he submit to being fired mutliple times without misfires or jams? I really would like to know the answers to these questions if you please!!
I really could not let this opportunity to further my education in self defense weapons pass without asking. :)

I believe the cat would technically be a carbine or SMG depending on of projetile expelled. Unfortunately some cat chemical attacks are bound to backfire on the user. Please ensure proper training is taken before using the cat chemical launcher as a primary means of defense

To be honest it depends on where I am. But it would be one of the following. Remington 870 12 Guage loaded with #6 shot and then Magnum Slugs. I alternate starting with the Shot. After that it would be either a Katana or my 5 foot Lorken/Black oak staff. I have seen the damage these can do and frankly I would rather be shot.

I'm glad the choice was for a "weapon" and not limited to a "gun."

I would want Hillary rigged up to a trip cord so that upon forced entry into the room, her hammy calves would clap shut on the intruder and squash him into an hourglass.

And as he expired, he would have to look at where he was and KNOW the definition of hell.

Naturally, I wouldn't want to be in that position in the first place, but since you asked...

I keep a .38 snub loaded with the old Remington Multi-ball load (two 000Buck balls inside a .38 case) next to the bed in a quick access safe. Alternatively, I have a S&W4006 (.40S&W) loaded with 11+1 155gr JHP Cor-Bon +Ps and an extra hi-cap mag loaded with same.

I'd rather have ready access to a pump shotgun, but it is a little more difficult to keep hidden/secured near the bed. 20ga shotgun is loaded (in the safe with mag loaded and empty chamber) with a candy cane load of #4Buck and slugs (that's buck/slug/buck/slug....) The sound of that slide racking is very intimidating in the dark!
