so buck shots or slugs and what size? also that flashlight forend seems like a bad f#@%ing idea, wont that just be screaming here i am to a intruder,am i wrong??????:

Light on fore end or a AA minimag in your mouth... yes a light will give away your position and I do not like to do so... BUT!!! You will be ill advised to squoze the trigger without positively ID'ing the target as friend or foe! There are so many variables in play with each defender that I cannot suggest a person maintain total "blackout" condition.

A fore end light with pressure switch is faster to operate than a "twisty end" on a pocket light.

In my case, i intend to utilize home lighting. Either the wall switched lights or the ambient lighting from appliances etc.

I have far fewer possible "welcomed guests" (announced or unannounced) than a vast majority of folks...

I can literally count, on one hand, the number of possibles and that includes friends and family.

If I had more "possibilities" I would make sure I had illuminated their face fully for positive ID as friend or intruder...

I played a lot of night paintball with a weapon-mounted light, and it flat WORKS. The light isn't for indiscriminate searches- it's for a momentary target ID, popopopop. The brighter, the better.

For home defense go with buck shot. What size is really up to you. Personally I go with #1. I wouldn't advise any smaller than #4, and 00 is the best all around. I really would refrain from slugs in a HD gun.

Here, this might help a little, just a little something the size and quantity of shot in each shell.

OK, came by a little late. I have a bone stock 870HD that I dearly love. Added QD swivels and have a nylon sling I can attach but leave off in the house. I keep it "cruiser ready" (no kids) so only have 4 rounds in the gun. Thinking of a mag ext or side saddle. See, to recall a strong preference here of one brand over the others (of sidesaddle). Comments??

Yeah, she's got several hundred rounds thru her, hope to add several hundred more soon.
