So far the unofficial verdict is that it may have been reamed to 308. The smith is gonna take a casting of it

308 is to much for a Contender pressure wise. I wonder if it had a 307 reamer run into it, still questionable.

Yea I was looking up 308 pressure and it seemed insane

Are there any extra markings on the lug? Some wildcatters mark the lug if it has been re-chambered. If it looks like a 307 it could be a Bowers chamber.

Or could it be the 309 JDJ since the Contender and G2 can safely be rechambered for that round? How loose fitting are the unfired .30-30 rounds when you insert them in the chamber?
