Sunday morning CCW

I need suggestions on CCW for church and other times when I need to look neat. My wife complains that I have quit tucking my shirt in since I began carrying routinely a year ago. Our church is very casual about dress so a T-shirt is fine but I prefer to look a little nicer than that. I usually just stick my Bersa inside my waistband and let my shirt hang over it. However this requires the occasional discrete adjustment and can be uncomfortable. When I wear a flannel shirt I tuck it in and then place the Bersa inside my shirt in my waist band on at other times I tuck my shirt in and then blouse it over the pistol. I need to find a better way to conceal. I want holster that will be comfortable, very discrete and secure enough that I will be able to pick up kids or other things without worrying about whether it will fall out on the floor. Concealment is very important at church because there are a few rabidly anti-gun liberal pacifists in the congregation. That small group would really make a stink if they knew that I carried while in the same place as them. Please note that these people are not representative of the majority of the church. Three of the Elders know I CCW as well as a number of other friends.

I have 3 carry pieces a CZ75 with 3 full capacity mags, 15rds each; an Bersa Thunder 380; and a Taurus 66 in .357
I greatly prefer the CZ because I shoot it better than any other handgun I have ever shot. I rarely carry the CZ when concealment is very important due to its size. The Bersa is compact and convenient. The Taurus is powerful and reliable but bulky and has only six rounds and I can't begin to shoot it as accuratly as the other two.

I need some suggestions on how to best carry. Specific holster reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. I am ready to try anything short of surgically implanting a holster in my abdomen.

I consider my risk factor to be very low and would consider something such as carrying the CZ inside a cloth Bible cover with a thin Bible.

I've been thinking about this too. I'm going to get a nice looking (western style)sport coat that will look good with jeans (I go to a "cowboy church") and a regular shirt-no tie. I'll then carry as I always do, strong-side IWB with my M/D Enterprises YCS holster and SA 1911.

PS, Always hug with your gunside arm low...it forces the other person to put their arm high.

Try www.fist-inc.com

They have a large assortment of holsters, and can make one to fit just about any gun. They also have a Kydex line too. I ordered an IWB holster for my Taurus PT-92. I am very pleased with it. I think you will be too. :)

Depending on your build:

Pager Pal (Large size) should handle your Bersa OK. I have one and have used it for a S&W 3913, Glock 19, KelTek P-11, and Colt Commanders/& Gov't Models.

(The Colts were not long period comfortable! An hour or so...)

Pants fit is going to affect comfort. Loose fit as everyone advises does not work for me as the weight of the gun tends to make everything sag.

Tight is not good. 'Nuff said there.

For me a close enough fit so that the part of the jeans/slacks just below the waistband helps support the holster/gun combo a little works best.

Pager & holster go just left of the belt buckle, butt of pistol is fairly close to center but not quite there. When you sit, holster rests on top of left thigh (seated draw is not easy and may not be feasible), leather is made to bend just below where pager is attached.

Draw stroke is as follows:

Lift bottom of pager out with left hand to clear belt while right hand pulls center of waistband (belt buckle area out so gun can clear waist band.

Lift on pager as you pull up until butt of gun clears waistband

Bend pager (and leather is is clipped to) forward and down so right hand can now obtain firing grip and draw from holster.

Comfort depends on attitude. Pager Pal allows me to carry (current carry guns) Glock 26 or Ruger SP 101 with tucked in shirt. And I carry in Churches not posted.

Another option is Action Directs shoulder holster version of the belly band idea. Designed to be worn under a shirt.

Or the Kramer undershirt holster.

Ankle holsters can be nice with the right handgun, especially in a large group such as church where a quick draw may not be nessecary.

I'm always reluctant to respond to these threads because it is too much like advertising. But the simpl fact is I market a holster that is idealy suited for what you describe. It is, for lack of a better explaination, a better, improved Bellyband, that may be worn any where on the torso and will carry any gun in your collection that does not have optics.
It holds the gun securely but will conceal under a "T" shirt or tucked in dress shirt (my usual attire).
If interested drop me an Email, gunscustom@aol.com .

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

You might want to try a tuckable type holster like Fist-Inc's Secret System 2, or Blade Tech's (www.blade-tech.com) Ultimate Concealment Holster. There are also the deep concealment rigs like Thunderwear and Smartcarry (www.smartcarry.com). Or you can wear your favorite IWB holster and wear an untucked nice looking banded bottom shirt.

Unfortunately where I live it is illegal to carry in a church even if you are a GA Firearms License holder (CCW). Kinda wish GA carry law was more like Texas'.

Andrew,
I've got one of Guslinger's "Off Duty Concealment Holsters". It conceals well when worn as an IWB, and for most people works well as a shoulder holster. I carry a SA 1911, and the weight is so well spread out, it's barely noticable. It also stays where it's put through most normal activity.

Andrew--
I normally carry a Kel-Tec P-32 in a pocket holster by Wild Bill when in church. I have not carried a larger weapon (IWB/strongside) because I am concerned about the grip contacting the wooden pew when sitting down, letting my neighbors know that I carry. I generally wear khakis or loose fitting dress slacks.

J frame or Taurus equivalent in the pants pocket. Easier to get to, sufficient firepower unless a multitude of opponents.

Remember GWB let Texans carry in church again!! So don't be voting for the Vegetarians or the like.

Be careful. Concealed carry may be illegal in church in some states... Check it out before you do it.

Bruce your link doesn't work right.

I don't begin to know which direction to go in selecting a holster. Are there any really good books or articles I can read.

Also how should I conceal when working on a vehicle, cutting wood or other grubby jobs if I put the gun in a pocket it gets full of crud to the point it may fail to function.

Walt; How can the govt pass a law regarding what you can wear to church?

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

Ed

I use a clone of Thunderware, it conceals most small pistols just fine without affecting your attire at all. Draw is surprisingly fast, though not exactly the speed of an IWB rig. The best part is it works with everything from jogging shorts and beyond.

The same way they can pass a law regarding what you can "wear" to a bank, to a government building, to a public school or, here, in North Carolina, what you wear in a funeral procession, in a funeral home, or -- I think -- in a church. (Not sure about that last one, and I can't find my copy of the law.) There are a lot of constraints on where you can carry concealed in nearly all state laws govering CC...

That's one of the advantages of taking the classes and doing it legally -- you learn what's gonna get you in trouble and what's not.

If you're going to carry that CZ75 I'll second what M1911 said about the Versa Max 2. Galco www.usgalco.com makes the Deep Cover, works but it's a little bulky. Then of course there is the creme de le creme www.mitchrosen.com who makes The Workman.
