Suggestions on a .22 for my spouse . . .

"She is gradually getting more comfortable in shooting the 22 Super Bearcat that I have..."
Listen to yourself Grasshopper.

If you are talking about something for her to shoot at the range, have a look at the Beretta Neos. It has very small grips, if her hands are small, and the magazines have a thumb tab that depresses the follower and makes them extremely easy to load. Everyone who shoots mine, including several friends of my college-age daughters who had never shot before, really enjoys it. There is a lot to be said for the encouragement of having early success with a pistol, and it is really easy to shoot the Neos well.

Browning Buckmark is a nice gun .../ a better option than the Ruger in my opinion..../ they have several models ....so something for everyone in the mix...

and if you dress it up with the Browning Buckmark red-dot sight ...it makes a really nice gun / easy to shoot / easy to reload....and it cycles most all of the .22 ammo out there without feeding issues ( even the cheap bulk .22 ammo like the Remington ) ....

Ruger Mk II or III is the best .22 out there. Any gun that throws brass back at you instead of out to the side is defective and should be returned to the maker. Don't accept that crap.

Thanks everyone for you thoughts and suggestions. Since I shoot primarily 38/357, I haven't been paying much attention to the 22s - something which I need to do. I looked up your suggestions and there are a lot of nice 22s out there for sure. At this time, I think I'll help her look for a revolver since she has exprressed that she would be more comfortable with one. I'd like to get her one that she can shoot both SA and DA - some of you have made excellent suggestions for sure. We'll see what they have at the range that we can rent for her to try and go from there.

I have to admit that since looking at the 22s, I see some semi autos that I wouldn't mind having myself. Perhaps the best way to go is to get her a revolver that she's comfortable with and a semi-auto for myself??? After all, there's always room for another one in the herd! :)

Thanks again to you all - it's been very helpful and I've discovered models that I wasn't aware of.

While MY .22 pistol of choice has been my stainless Ruger MkII, I would probably recommend the Browning Buckmark.

Up front, I'll tell you this is based on only ONE comparison. I bought my younger brother one for his HS graduation, and we went out to shoot both of them. The Browning felt lighter, more responsive, and was actually slightly more accurate.. at least I found it easier to shoot accurately.

Still, stubbornly, my 5 1/2" Ruger is my gun.. one of the few that I won't trade off. It's been my companion for about 30 years now. Too much history there to trade away... :D
