Suggestions for bedside holster?

I currently keep my 4" revolver under my bed, on the carpet. It gets a pretty dusty lying down there, so I'm looking for a good way to attach the gun to the side of the bed.

I have a little table, but there is no drawer. A 4" revolver takes up too much space on top of it, plus I'd like to keep it a little more out of sight.

A quick google search revealed the Pillow Pal, which requires your own holster to attach, and also this rather cheesy looking setup. Any other suggestions along these lines? Or something better perhaps?

Thanks for the link to the Pillow Pal. I saw something similar to that some years ago, and have been looking for it. It looks like an excellent solution for my needs, although IIRC, the one I had been looking for allowed the use of a regular belt type holster. If you are not worried about concealment and comfort on your person you can get a nylon holster for most guns for $20 or under.

Any hard or soft sided gun case will do. I keep mine in a soft sided gun case during the day but open it up for easy access prior to lights out. Keeps the dust off it during the day and it's easily accessable at night.

Drop over to your local Tandy Leather shop.

Get a stainless belt clip and a piece of scrap leather big enough to wrap your hand gun in.

Wet the leather real good, fold it around your handgun and press the sides together forming a "general outline" of your handgun.

Hang it up in front of a fan to dry.

Leave about 3/4 to 1 inch border on the triggerguard side of the handgun, and cut off the rest of the leather after it has dried for a day or two.

Take a small scrap of leather to make a band across the back of the holster, that will hold the stainless belt clip.

Use Elmer's contact cement to glue the band across the back and the edges together on your holster.

Re-wet the holster and wag the gun around in it until it is real loose, . . . dry it again for a day or two.

Hang your holster on the rail of your bed, . . . and when you need the gun, . . . just apply your thumb to the top of the holster, grab the butt end and pull her out.

Those are fun to make, . . . inexpensive, . . . and work like a champ if you are not like me and lay the thing on the table right next to the alarm radio.

May God bless,
Dwight

I'm about to screw a holster to the side of my bed side table,in the back of it for my Model 10 .38 Smith.

That way,I don't have to rummaging for it if I should need it.

i keep hammerless s&w 357 in sock between mattress. keeps dust out and in a pinch would not have to remove from sock to shoot. probably do this cause i`m cheap:rolleyes:, but it works.

+1 to this suggestion. This is how I did it during deer season at my brother's home. He had an old farmhouse which wasn't very secure, and had me sleeping out on the enclosed porch which had a door with no lock. And I was locked out of the house!

I don't think I was his favorite brother ...

Anyway, at home I have a small gun safe on the bottom shelf on my nightstand. I sleep close to the wall on my side so you can't see it. Press 3 buttons in the right sequence and it spring pops open. Very convienent! Cost around $80 I think.

I don't use a holster either...

My night time gun lays just out of arms reach upright on the floor, behind my dresser with the meprolight sights pointing at me, so it can be clearly seen from my bed.

It has a Surefire X300 attatched and even if someone where to make it into my bedroom with waking me, my dog,my wife or my daughter they still can't see the gun from the bedroom door even even if they have a flashlight.

Our bedside table has a drawer.

What do I tell the burgular if I wake up and he's coming down my hallway?

"Excuse me,while I retrieve my Smith to shoot you with."

That guns gotta be ready at a moments notice.

We have no kids otherwise yes,we'd have to put it in a quick open gun storage box.

I have a in the pant holster that keeps the G21 or S&W 4506-1 secure. Does your matress have those "handles" on the side? Mine does and that holster fits pretty snug.

I took the cheapo holster that came with my Mil-Spec and bolted it to the bottom outside edge of my headboard. It insures the gun is always in the same spot. Then I just put it in the pistol box under the bed when I get up in the morning.

The Wilderness Safepacker mentioned by FLA is a quality holster, I own several and they wear well. The bed mattress set up looks neat, and you can also easily attach it to a backpack or seat belt while hiking or in a car. A versatile design.
